  Students complete the summative assessment on the unit, including multiple choice and essay questions.

  Dec 17, 2010

  Students revisit the KWL chart from the beginning of the unit. The class brainstorms what they have learned and adds to the original file.

• Concept Mapping
  Dec 17, 2010

  Students review all relevant topics and ideas from the unit by creating a concept map on the SMART Board.

• Timeline Project - Peer Assessment
  Dec 16, 2010

  Laptops are set up around the room "gallery style." Groups travel around to observe other projects and make suggestions and/or comments as needed. Students make revisions if necessary.

  Students create timeline project using laptops. Students use rubric to guide their project, including pictures, video, music, etc.

  Dec 14, 2010

  Instructor models "Dipity" tools and shows a sample of project. Students choose partner and decide on a target audience.

• Lab: Electron Configurations
  Dec 10, 2010

  Students complete the activity writing electron configurations, orbital filling diagrams, and dot diagrams for various elements on the Periodic Table.

• Lab: Flame Tests
  Dec 9, 2010

  Students conduct a laboratory experiment to observe the color changes of a flame when various compounds are heated. They relate this hands-on experience to the notes they received on energy levels and quantum theory.

• Research Project on Chemists
  Dec 8, 2010

  Students use the Web to research the important people associated with the development of the model of the atom.

  Students review prior knowledge by brainstorming what they know and what they want to know about the atom on a SMART Board file.

  Dec 1, 2010

  Students create models based on instructions from the teacher. Models are modified as new information is provided.
