The militant Black Panthers were founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in Oakland California. The organization initially set forth a doctrine calling primarily for the protection of African American neighborhoods from police brutality. They dissolved in 1982.
Sam Smith was elected as Seattle’s first black city councilman. ne of his first acts in Olympia was to introduce a bill to ban discrimination based on race or religion in the rental or sale of homes. This bill failed.
Little Rock Nine were a group of African American students that integrated Central High in Little Rock. Many riots were caused due to the nonacceptance African Americans. They were protected by the national guard. Only eight of the nine students graduated from Central High
By refusing to give up a seat on a bus Rosa Parks started the Montgomery bus boycott. It was led by Martin L King Jr and lasted thirteen months. Many African Americans refused to ride the bus and chose other means to get around.
It states, "It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin." This order desegregated the US army.
