    1) World War 1 started in the year 1914. The four causes of this war were: Imperalism, Nationalism, Militarism, and the Alliance System. Imperalism means to extend economic and political control over weaker nations. Imperalism wanted: new markets, cultural superiorty, and military strength. Nationalism is the devotion to the interest and culture of only one nation. Nationalism lead to competition. An example of nationalism leading to competition is when Russia and Austria-Hungary were fighting over Serbia. Militarsim is the development of armed forces and their use as tools of diplomacy. Germany and Britain compete to have the best military. Alliance System is the formal agreement or union between nations. There were two sides, the Triple Entente (Allies) and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente involved the countries: France, Britain, Russia, and later on the U.S.A. The countries on the Triple Alliance side were: Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy.
