lewis and clark were sent by Thomas jefferson to find out what was in the south and to find a route to the pacific ocean. they came across many indian tribes, plants, and new animals. sacagewea helped them on their journy they found the pacific ocean in 1806.
after having a war spain needed money so they sold louisiana territory to the united states for $15 millon dollars.this is what started westward exspansion and then led to lewis and clark expedition
