Beowulf- The story about the heroic warrior written at that time. The author drew upon both pagan and Christian elements to tell how Beowulf killed a monster, its monster, and a dragon to defend a kingdom. Pagan elements used in this story include sacraficing to idols, relying on omens, believing in fate, and taking revenge. Yet, Beowulf is a Christlike figure. Beowulf battled the evil monsters just as Christ battled the evils of sin. And, like Jesus, Beowulf gave up his life in order to save others.
Augustine baptized King Ethelbert and many of his people. The Chruch celebrates the feast of Augustine of Canterbury on May 27. Also, a another thing happened in 597. Near the Kent castle in England. Enter Augustine. He has just arrived on a mission to convert pagans in the Kingdom.
Gregory the Great became pope. He negoitated an agreement for peace with barbarian invaders. Pope Gregory knew that to maintain a peaceful society, the barbarians would have to become Christians.
