Tynemouth outdoor pool opened on 30th May 1925.
Today, the open air swimming pool at Tynemouth blights one of the best urban beaches in the country and stands as a derelict reminder of the days when hardier folk thought nothing of plunging into chilly waters.
The boom time for lidos, or open air pools, was in the 1930s when 180 were built to add to the 50 constructed in the previous decade. In Britain lidos became a symbol of civic pride and progress.

The end for many a lido was signalled by the advent of cheap foreign travel and a 1960 report that pools should be indoors in large buildings which catered for a range of sports. The leisure centre was born and became the new civic must-have.
A regular lido user remembers: "At the time, a water temperature of 60F seemed normal.
"We didn't know any better. But once the family had been to Spain they didn't want to go into that again."

Looking after the flowers in the garden. These little models were hard to spot at first but turned out fine. I did some enhancing in Adobe Photoshop to add a bit of magic.
