ok, time for drink. If anyone was following live blogging from @ostephensili08 today post a comment on my blog how you found it
@ostephensili08 Thanks for the GREAT running commentary on the panel debate!!
Gwenda: closing out - transferable skills at heart of librarianship - and this is what keeps us relevant
Michael Stephens: we will be guides when people need us (addressing my @ostephens comment on Info Literacy)
Michael Stephens: If you bring your heart to work, doesn't matter where
Michael Casey: Why should we depend on a commercial company to bring us together?
Thom: Disagree - everyone in this room is an international librarian (well, not UK delegates) - people who have gone beyond their borders
Michael Casey: Need an international library association?
Q: Do we have international librarians? And how would you describe them?
Michael Stephens: need to teach young people how to manage their digital lives
@ostephensili08 I worry that saying users don't need to be information literate is like monks saying 'people shouldn't have to read'?
we should not be training our users
Michael Casey: in public library, just want something that works like Google
Thom: how many people ever used boolean searching? Google never tried to teach boolean. Go read 'Ambient Searching'
Thom: most people don't actually want to be librarians. We tend to think they ought to be better at searching etc.
