The Nevada Wolf Pack officially joined the Mountain West Conference, leaving behind a crumbling Western Athletic Conference.

Nevada was placed on three years probation in March 2010 for major violations following a 28-month NCAA investigation.The Wolf Pack also was hit with scholarship reductions in men's and women's golf. The violations committed within the golf program included multiple extra benefit violations, unethical conduct and a failure to promote rules compliance by former men's golf coach Rich Merritt, who resigned on May 14, 2008. The investigation stemmed from a whistle-blower complaint filed by former soccer coach Terri Patraw in September 2007 alleging improper conduct by Merritt.
