Ulysses S. Grant swept the election, unfortunately he was easily corruptible.
The Republican Party chose Abraham Lincoln, no one really knew of him, but he ran for president and he won.
The Southern States succeded from the union because they and Lincoln had very, very different views on slavery.
The Republican Party was born in 1854 Jackson, MI when the Whig Party and people who were against the Kansas Nebraska Act came together.
James Monroe was elected into the office of presidency.
Democratic-Republicans gained control over the nation. They were against strong central gov. and worked hard to help out the farmers in America.
Unfortunately the democratic party split due to differing views on slavery.
