All the who-ha this week has been about Valentines Day. I'm not one to indulge but thought I'd hunt through my old photo collection to find an image to fit the theme of Valentines Day.
I remembered this pic from my Y2K backpacking trip through Europe, taken with one of those cheap Kodak disposable cameras with the tiny plastic lens.
I've previously posted some of the scanned prints but decided to go one better and scan the actual negatives. I haven't got around to processing them yet. Photoshop Lightroom (my photography app of choice) did a nicve job of cleaning up noise and boosting the colour rendering.

Not quite as successful as I'd like... for some reason the Nikon wanted to compensate for the head-on sun exposure.
See other captures in the photostream for comparison.

Just as Tony and I could hear the early evening fireworks, an additional rumble could be heard. Soon the sky was alight with not New Years Eve fireworks, but an impressive lightning storm across Hobart.
The shot is a bit out of focus - it's hard to manual focus in the dark - but this is the best of a bad bunch.
The flash light on the trees is actually off Tony's camera not mine - wow, freaky.

The Margate Train, formerly known as the Tasman Limited, made its final rail journey on 28 July 1978. The Tasman Limited was built in England in 1950 and served as a passenger service between Hobart and Launceston until 1978. The train’s carriages now house a variety of specialty shops offering a wide variety of goods from antiques and collectables to second-hand goods and a cafe.

I may have over done the colour saturation here. While Photomatix has colour saturation and colour temperature controls, Lightroom seems to have more grunt when cranking the Vibrancy and Saturation sliders - much higher than I normally would.

PLEASE NOTE: A revised version of this image has now been rendered and that the image above has been removed from Group Pool's and replace with the revised version. Thanks to all those who viewed and commented on this image.

REVISED VERSION: The previous rendition was exported from Lightroom to Photomatix as .TIF files. This version was a direct import of RAW .NEF files to Photomatix - there's less highlight blow-out of the SUN in the lower right. The result saved and imported to Lightroom where the previous settings were reapplied.
THANKS to those who viewed and commented on the previous version. Sorry for the duplication - the replace file function didn't seem to work.

Here's a shot looking over my back fence last week of a sunset. Yep, I know I'm pushing the crap out of the level adjustments here, but hey... I came up with something better than the original settings.
The foreground was entirely under-exposed so I pushed that with Lightroom's gradient filter and coloured the sky with the adjustment brush.
If you look closer, you'll see some powerlines going through the shot
