The war was initiated by Saddam Hussein, who refused to go into exile (a proposal made by President Bush). It was a decision made by the president to send in American forces to search for weapons of mass destruction. This resulted in heavy global criticism.
After the destruction of the world trade centers in New York, the United States initiated war with Iraq. The war and reformation of Iraq still remains to this day.
After JFK notified the public that the Soviet Union was building secret missle bases in Cuba, he ordered a naval quarantine of Cuba. The purpose of this decision was to prevent Russian ships from bringing more supplies to assist in the building of the missles. All was resolved on October 28 due to Russia agreeing to remove all missles and supply ships.
To ensure the support of other countries (allies), the U.S remained inactive in WWII early on. Upon entering WWII, it marked the transition from isolationism to involvement with foreign countries.
In a letter sent to congress, Monroe stated that the Western Hemisphere was no longer open for establishment of colonies. It also included that the political system of the Americas was vast in difference from Europe. Also, the U.S. concidered any hostility involving the Western Hemisphere would be a threat to security. Lastly, The U.S. remained inactive in European wars and would not interfere with colonies in the west.
The first steps to beginning foreign policy began when George Washington entered into presidency. He initiated two policies. The first began with taking control of treaty negotionations. Second, he sent representatives overseas to take care of negotiations without the approval of congress.
