Peter Jenkinson has worked for over 20 years in the cultural sector, passionately advocating and acting for deep and lasting change across the cultural and political landscape. In his current role as an independent 'cultural broker' he works across a diverse portfolio of disciplines and sectors including broadcasting, public policy, regeneration, museums and galleries and leadership development. Prior to this Peter has had a distinguished and award-winning career working across the arts and culture, including his role as founding director of the Creative Partnerships programme and the initiation and delivery of the world-class £21 million The New Art Gallery Walsall. His key areas of interest include the critical roles of creativity, innovation, diversity and broader cultural literacy across society as well as a commitment to building social justice and intelligent democracy.

Undertaking a range of projects of national significance including Advisor on public art to the North West Challenge Board for the post-conflict City of Derry, Northern Ireland, on and off screen participation in Channel 4’s audacious Big Art Project television series due to air in Autumn 2008 and Advisor to the Visual Arts and Galleries Association as well as mentoring of artists and other cultural figures and contributing to policy forums, debates and conferences nationally and internationally, including most recently the Salzburg Global Seminar. Engagements in Alice Springs, Belfast, Dublin, Hong Kong, Liverpool and Shanghai forthcoming in 2008. Recent and current clients include Alchemy Anew, Arts Council England, British Council, British Film Institute, Central London Partnership, The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, The Clore Leadership Programme, cultureworksuk, Economic and Social Research Council, InSite Arts, International Centre for Fine Arts Research, London Centre for Arts and Cultural Enterprise, Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, New Contemporaries, Renaissance Yorkshire, the University of East London and the University of Ulster.
Creation and leadership of the £40 million Creative Partnerships (CP) programme linking the cultural and creative sector with schools in 16 of the most disadvantaged communities across England around genuine partnership work to engender creative learning as well as increase cultural opportunities of the highest quality. Key tasks included devising the policies, values and strategy for CP; the recruitment and direct management of 16 regionally-distributed Creative Directors and their teams as well as a London-based hub team; ensuring the effective delivery of CP and monitoring performance; negotiating partnerships and relationships at national level with leaders of the cultural, broadcast and media, creative industries, business, policy-making and education sectors; maintaining excellent relationships with Ministers, senior civil servants and advisors in government particularly in DfES, DCMS and the Number 10 Policy Unit; connecting with those at the forefront of the creativity agenda nationally and internationally, representing CP in speeches and seminars at school, local, regional and national levels; advocating with the team for additional investment in CP in the last Spending Review resulting in a further £70 million from HM Treasury.
