Question 1: What were the details of the event? During the 2010 E3 press conference Nintendo not only announced the next generation of DS but that it would also use 3D with out the need of glasses. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This is important in the development of 3D games and a new way to interact with the games. Question 1: What were the details of the event? During the 2010 E3 game developer Harmonix revealed Rock Band 3 and its new innovative controllers. These controllers combined with modes in the game can tech the player to play actual guitar or actual keyboard. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This is an important event for developers in the fact that you could put a teaching mechanic in the game in a compelling way through a level of interaction that gets the player deeply involved in learning something in a compelling way. Question 1: What were the details of the event? Microsoft at the 2009 E3 unveiled their motion-controlled platform to compete with Nintendo’s Wii. With the exception of that Microsoft’s “Natal” now called “Kinect” uses no controller unlike both the Wii and Playstation Move motion based controllers. It uses advanced technology to detect where your hands and body are relative to the events happening on screen. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? The importance of this event is determined by how developers will use the controller free motion and interaction to play games. Question 1: What were the details of the event? The achievement system was announced along with the custom profile feature on the Xbox 360. The achievements would be unlocked when the player completes a special task or event in the game. The achievements act as awards for games like little trophies (in which the PS3 has in response to achievements) and gives the player an award for playing games well. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This is an important event for developers in getting extra replay value out of their games. With achievements the developer could have the player play the game in a different way or replay the game on a harder difficulty. Question 1: What were the details of the event? When GTA San Andréa’s was released in 2004 it seemed like just another grand theft auto game full of crimes and violence but the most controversial thing in the game wasn’t either of those things. The problems started when a mod was released for the PC version that activated a previously disabled mini-game. This mini-game was also found in the assets of the console versions. This created a controversy that got the game rerated as an adult only game until the content was completely removed from the game. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This event stands as an important lesson to game developers that if they have unwanted content in their games they must completely delete such content. Rockstar North thought it had done the right thing disabling the mini-game but they did not foresee that modders would go into the game assets and activate it. Question 1: What were the details of the event? The announcement of the Playstation 3’s technology and what its capable of, sent shivers down the spins of gamers everywhere. With games made on blu-ray disks that can hold tons of memory, The graphical power that can produce high definition realistic images, and multiplayer lobbies of 200+ players. This event was important to the industry in the way that it opened up the doors to creating realistic worlds and experiences. The DS released on November 21, 2004 with the DS also came the first modern dual screen game system with the second or bottom screen also being a touch screen. The DS also had voice command technology allowing for controlling games with words and for voice chat during online games. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This is important to game developers in the way they handle handheld games. Not only are you designing a game but you are also going to factor in other game play features involving touch, and sound. Question 1: What were the details of the event? In august of 2004 the public got their first taste of Nintendo’s next console property and the motion-based gaming. Though some doubted that it would work properly. Those thoughts were put to rest in 2005 at a show in Japan where Nintendo showed it in action. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This event was important to the industry because it caused a stir of possibility to game devs and console makers alike. The use of motion to control games could lead game developers to create more interactive worlds and get the player more involved with the game. Question 1: What were the details of the event? During E3 of 2002 almost a year after the Xbox’s launch its online service was announced to the public. It requiring a broadband connection and solid hard drive space, to give the user access to voice communication, DLC, and online multiplayer. Question 2: Why was the event important to the industry? This was an important event for the industry because it allows developers to create solid multiplayer experiences for a lot more players at once. Question 1: What were the details of the event? Valve announces Steam at the Game Developers Conference originally as a digital distribution service. It would eventually grow to include game registration, multiplayer servers and anti-cheat protection. Changing the face of PC gaming and digital distribution for the foreseeable future.
