Clay Shirky’s at Web 2.0 Expo in New York.
In it, Clay gives a talk on Social Networks, Lifestreaming, and Privacy. It’s a timely talk as lifestreams go mainstream. It's about the social impacts of lifestreaming and the crudeness of the tools we have to manage them.

Soundslides is the merging of audio, pictures and video. It is becoming something of an industry-standard tool to tell news stories on the web. The media industry in the US is very much welcoming soundslides on the web and use them quite often to tell a news story. Mediastorm is one of the hottest companies, and deliver multimedia presentations to companies like Reuters, Los Angeles Times, MSNBC og New York Times.Have a look at some examples. They are quite impressive.Iraq war (Reuters, NewYorkTimes)Assassination of Benazir Bhutto (NewYork Times, CNN)
Review: Susan Herring (2004): "Slouching toward the ordinary: current trends in computer mediated communication (CMC)". http://nms.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/6/1/26Susan Herring’s article: “Slouching toward the ordinary” is about current trends in computer mediated communication (CMC). Every year a new type of CMC seems to enter the scene on internet. Still, she claims, the way we communicate is not changing. It is the message-centered, text interface paradigm that dominates. Is internet slouching toward the ordinary as well? Increased bandwidth means that new communication environments based on audio, video and 3d graphics are becoming available. The multimedia age on internet is approaching. Herring looks at this trend and says that it is not shaping our communication habits. It is still text messages that dominates. The popularity of emails and sms is not going down, and how many people send MMS to each other? How many place pictures and videos on their blogs and...

There is a bit of confusion about this term, and experts don't agree too much on what web2.0 is, and if we can use such a term at all. So, how can we define a term that people don't agree is a term? The only way I could think of is to get the definition from a web 2.0 website itself. Wikipedia is after all one of the best example of a web2.0 software. At Wikipedia definitions changes over time, and you can be part of creating it. Here is "our" definition today (may, 2008):"Web 2.0 is a term describing the trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies." If this is too much words for you I recommend this Youtube video to understand the term or the trend better.

Google trends is a great tool that gives you statistics of the world's interest in your favorite topics. I wanted to know if people's interest in web/online TV is growing, and the result is quite clear. It does!My search included both terms: 'online TV' and 'web TV'. In the graph the blue line represents 'online TV' while the red line represents 'web TV'. The graph tells us two things. 1. it is clear that the interest for online TV is growing. 2. internet users use the term 'online TV' while the news sites prefer to use 'web TV'.Google trends give us more information as well. It gives you geographical information and good links to relevant articles. My search gave me information that (for some reason) many people in East Europe are eager to find out about online TV.

A short, easy and well structured book about web usability. The book teaches you the "secrets" about web users, conventions and the unwritten laws that exist on web design. Nice examples and a very good layout make the book very easy to read and understand. A book that gives you the basic knowledge needed as a web designer.

Online video is growing in popularity, but the majority isn’t getting anywhere near your TV screen. A survey by Macrovision says that only 10 percent have a desire to play their downloaded video on a TV or DVD player. The company was surprised to learn this:“While people very quickly figured out the music scenario—either legally or illegally—they haven’t figured that out for video,” observes Macrovision chief evangelist Richard Bullwinkle. A very interesting article about interactivity and online journalism in web 2.0. What is interactivity? - Interactivity is not video, or ‘multimedia’; it is not flashy bells and whistles. At its core, it is about giving the user control.

Have you tried googling your name recently? Do you reflect on what image you create of yourself at the web? Creating an internet identity is becoming part of our lives, whether we like it or not. Most of us have made a personal profile on the web. Not only are we encouraged to write about ourselves and upload pictures, we are also encouraged to tell the world what we are doing right now. The new site Twitter is all about this, and it is also a popular function at Facebook. All social networks create personal profiles of us. Most of these are private profiles as they only exist within the community. Public profiles are different. These can be found by googling your name, and can be read by anyone, even your parents or your grandparents... Some of them you control, others not. No matter what kind of profiles you have on the web, in private or public communities, you might want to reflect on them. Do they create a good image of you? Are they close enough to the identity y...
