Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 -- June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States (1981--1989) and the 33rd Governor of California (1967--1975). Born in Tampico, Illinois, Reagan moved to Los Angeles, California in the 1930s. He began a career as an actor, first in films and later television, appearing in 52 movie productions and gaining enough success to become a household name. Though largely a B film actor, some of his most notable roles are in Knute Rockne, All American and Kings Row. Reagan served as president of the Screen Actors Guild, and later spokesman for General Electric (GE); his start in politics occurred during his work for GE. Originally a member of the Democratic Party, he switched to the Republican Party in 1962. After delivering a rousing speech in support of Barry Goldwater's presidential candidacy in 1964, he was persuaded to seek the California governorship, winning two years later and again in 1970. He was defeated in his run for the Republican presidential nomination in 1968 as well as 1976, but won both the nomination and election in 1980. As president, Reagan implemented new political and economic initiatives. His supply-side economic policies, dubbed "Reaganomics", were aimed at controlling inflation and spurring economic growth through tax cuts, reduced business regulation, and reduced growth in government spending. In his first term he survived an assassination attempt, took a hard line against labor unions, and ordered ...

On March 18, 1970, Local 36 of New York City's National Association of Letter Carriers began a wildcat strike protesting low pay and poor job advancement. Postal workers in more than 30 cities joined the strike, crippling businesses nationwide. President Richard Nixon tried using the National Guard to process mail in New York City before negotiating with workers to end the strike almost two weeks after it began. Vincent R. Sombrotto (president emeritus of the National Association of Letter Carriers and member of Local 36), William Burrus (president of the American Postal Workers Union), and George Gould (former Staff Director of the Subcommittee on Postal Operations and Services) discuss these momentous events and the dramatic changes the strike sparked in the nation's mail service and its employees' lives.

In 1961 as part of Operation Coffee Cup, Ronald Reagan recorded a long playing record as a paid spokesperson for the American Medical Association called "Ronald Reagan speaks out against SOCIALIZED MEDICINE", excerpts of which are provided here. Reagan claimed what eventually would become Medicare a few years later was being pushed by liberals who were actually nothing other than Socialists, would provide a "foot in the door" which would quickly lead to government mandated and rationed health care, and would shortly lead to a complete Socialist dictatorship. Medicare was passed and became law in 1965, Reagan went on to become the 40th president of the United States in 1981. Sound familiar??? The exact same utter nonsense is being screamed today by the right against health care reform. greedgeneration.blogspot.com

I was honored to be at the Capitol this week for the unveiling of the statute honoring our nations 40th president, Ronald Reagan. When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke I was reminded that there is a big difference between being politically correct and just being plain correct. [Clip] Yes, Nancy Reagan has been a strong advocate for stem cell research embryonic stem cell research which has not helped a SINGLE human being, it has not produced one cure or treatment, but it has led to the destruction of countless vulnerable human embryos and given lots of tumors to lab rats. Adult stem cells, on the other hand, which neither Mrs. Reagan nor Speaker Pelosi have advocated for, have treated thousands and offer real hope to thousands more. More than 70 different medical conditions have been treated with ethical and effective adult stem cells. For more information visit www.frc.org

Ronald Reagan: Rendezvous with Destiny, hosted by Newt and Callista Gingrich, is a groundbreaking film that documents the life and legacy of the 40th President of the United States. Through never-before-seen interviews with former heads of state, cabinet officials and White House staff, RENDEZVOUS WITH DESTINY tells the story of the Reagan presidency and the three pillars that shaped his time in office: reviving the American economy, restoring America's spirit, and challenging the oppression of the Soviet Union.
