BUCHAREST, Romania — A 25-year-old woman weighing 528 pounds gave birth to her first baby on Thursday at a hospital equipped to treat obese people. "The baby is the fruit of the love between me and my future husband who is slimmer, weighing just 154 pounds," said Victoria Lacatus. "I wanted this child with all my heart, whatever the sacrifice," the Adevarul newspaper quoted her as saying. The healthy baby girl, born by , weighed 6.4 pounds, said Bogdan Popescu, a spokesman at Bucharest University Emergency Hospital. Lacatus was admitted there from her village in southern Romania because the local hospital did not have any beds that could bear her weight, officials said. In Bucharest, three teams of ambulance staff and firefighters were needed to carry her into the hospital. Popescu said Lacatus was being carefully monitored because she suffers from a thyroid problem and doctors said post-surgery complications could develop because of her morbid obesity. Dr. Manny Alvarez, managing health editor of FoxNews.com, said pregnancy risks in obese women include high blood pressure, , miscarriage, and respiratory problems. Alvarez said it would be difficult to monitor the health and movement of the baby in this kind of case because an ultrasound would be limited. "I think in this case, even though it is being reported as an interesting story with a good outcome, it is far from ideal," Alvarez said. "Someone in this position would really need to try to lose weight before . Patients ...
BOSTON -A woman was critically injured in Westwood on Sunday when a delivery truck slammed into a low bridge, then flipped over and struck her car, sending her into an electrical pole, police said. The sequence of collisions began at about 8:20 am when an ice cream delivery truck crashed into a railroad overpass near 426 East St., flipping onto its side. The woman's vehicle, which was approaching from the other direction, collided with the truck and then careened into an N-Star utility pole, police said. The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was the only person injured in the crash. The decals on the delivery truck indicate that it is owned by Gifford's Ice Cream in Skowhegan, Maine. East Street was shut down for more than an hour while a towing company lifted the overturned delivery truck. Thebostonchannel.com
What better than the words of Mitch Stewart, Organizing For America's Director, to let you know the feeling of accomplishment shared by thousands of volunteers who gathered in livingrooms across the country to make calls to Congress requesting to deliver on Health Care Reform: "It's late; I know you've gotten a lot of messages from us recently, and everyone here at OFA headquarters is pretty tired. But the last reports of calls and commitments are just coming in from events on the West Coast, and I wanted to share the news with you. As you know, we set a big goal: 100000 calls to Congress placed or committed to in a single day by OFA supporters and allied organizations. By 2:30 pm, you had crushed it. So, we gulped and said let's go for 200000, not knowing what would happen. But the calls just kept pouring in -- keeping phones ringing off the hook in congressional offices in DC and your representatives' district offices around the country. Then, OFA supporters gathered in over 1000 living rooms and community centers from Macon, Georgia to Missoula, Montana. You called hundreds of thousands of key voters in your community and got them to agree to call Congress and speak out for reform, too. President Obama joined in at a call party in New York -- and he had some amazing words of support for the folks like you who make this movement possible. I'm looking at the numbers, and with almost all of the reports now in, the tally wasn't 200000 calls placed or pledged -- it was ...

While I felt that I pretty much represented the soulful side of J R&B as well as I could with my Part 2 video. (I only planned to do two videos.) As you can see.... Part 2 is no longer up. (It was taken down due to copyright infringement.) I'm not going to bother to redo Part 2 nor will I upload it again. (To do so would mean that I would have to edit the contents of the video. Can't do that. Part 2 is perfect the way it is.) I'm going a different direction with Part 3. Part 3 focuses on unheard of, forgotten singers who either fell off, or just aren't that well known outside of Japan. (Part 2 got taken down, because I actually used some mainstream musicians in that vid. So now I'm going the other way around by digging through the trash.) In order of appearance: SAKURA: She's one of the best imo. She's quite a veteran being the only old school prominent female JR&B artist from the early to mid 90's who's still around making hits. (The other would be Toko Furuuchi.) She's not exactly underrated, because I never met anyone who actually hated her music. She's just not as well known as most of the younger girls trying to get into the R&B game. 椿 TSUBAKI: She's the most underrated Japanese R&B singer of all time imo. I think her angelic singing speaks for itself. She fell off, because her music just doesn't sell. (She's not "Black Face" enough. Only "Black face" artists seem to sell decently in Japan.) Her record label even tried to make her go pop."Sea of Love" (Which fared ...
In 1972 Universal Pictures released this thriller that came and went without notice. The film stars Patty Duke and Richard ("John Boy" from "The Waltons") Thomas. The thriller is quite good and very suspenseful. Patty Duke plays a pregnant Vietnam war widow named Francesca, who travels just before a big snow storm to meet the mother in law (Rosemary Murphy) she never knew and to let her know that she will soon be a grandmother. She is greeted coldly by the woman who blames her for the loss of her son. Soon Francesca is snowed in, she is about to deliver her baby and the woman in the house may not be her mother in law after all. Oh, and by the way there is a cousin of Francescas's deceased husband that has been convicted of rape and murder on the loose, and he may just be hiding in the basement of the house. Here is some trivia, what makes this truly intresting other than the fact it's a great flick, is that the house in Duluth Minnesota where the movie was filmed, actiually was the scene of a double murder in 1977. The owner and her nurse were killed there and although the woman's husband was found guilty, he was later acquitted and the murder remains unsolved. Currently, there are tours that can be taken on the grounds and through the house. This is one of those films that people remember scenes from, but can't remember the title. Currently unavailable on DVD or Video, this film never turns up anywhere anymore.

One of country music's greatest stars, Tanya Tucker, has just finished recording a new album, My Turn, to be released on June 30, 2009 on Saguaro Road Records. Few can match the emotional range of Tucker's vocals or the extraordinary career that began when she landed her first Top 10 hit on the country chart at just 13. On her new album Tucker takes classic country songs originally recorded by the all time great male legends of the time and turns the tables, giving classics such as "You Don't Know Me" and "Oh, Lonesome Me" a powerful reconstruction from a woman's point of view. "Tanya is one of the few country superstars able to deliver searingly honest country songs and still relate to fans of every age and musical interest," says Saguaro Road Senior Vice President Audio & Video Retail Mike Jason. "She is a one of a kind artist and personality and epitomizes what we at Saguaro Road are all about." Working with producer Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam, Michelle Shocked), Tucker selected songs from her childhood that inspired her career and completely transformed their delivery and meaning with her inimitable earthy, passionate and unflinching style. SOLID SOUL POWER!Deep soul diva Tommie Young was born and raised in Dallas. While performing at a local nightclub in 1972, she was discovered by Bobby Patterson, a Shreveport, Louisiana-based performer and producer who, with fellow composer Jerry Strickland, operated the fledgling Soul Power label. Patterson signed Young virtually on the spot, and returned to Shreveport to mastermind instrumental versions of OV Wright's "That's How Strong My Love Is," and Percy Sledge's "Take Time to Know [Her]." Young then traveled to Shreveport to record vocals, completing each track in just one take each; the end result was her debut single, now a southern cult classic -- boasting a remarkable soprano deeply rooted in the gospel tradition, her delivery also bears the deep influence of Aretha Franklin's secular efforts, yet never sounds the least bit derivative. For Young's next single, Patterson and Strickland co-authored the original ballad "Do You Still Feel the Same Way" -- a major hit in Memphis and New Orleans, the single also cracked the national R&B Top 30, and would prove her biggest commercial hit. The follow-up, Patterson's "She Don't Have to See You (To See Through You)" is, in many respects, her masterpiece, although it was only a minor chart hit -- her lone secular LP, also titled Do You Still Feel the Same Way?, appeared soon after, generating the singles "You Brought It All On Yourself" and "You Came Just in Time." Hampered by Soul Power's ongoing distribution problems ...

BACKGROUND: Shoulder dystocia takes place when a baby gets stuck by the shoulders behind the mother's pelvic bone during delivery. This happens when a baby is already in the birth canal, so to ease the baby out, a doctor has to do immediate maneuvers. Shoulder dystocia is described in an American Family Physician research article as "one of the most frightening emergencies in the delivery room." Authors wrote, "Although many factors have been associated with shoulder dystocia, most cases occur with no warning." Risk factors for shoulder dystocia include having diabetes, being overweight, carrying a large baby and having a history of births with shoulder dystocia. While some cases of shoulder dystocia are overcome without injury to the baby, 20 percent cause injury, according to shoulderdystociainfo.com. These injuries include collar bone fractures, humerus fractures, contusions, lacerations, birth asphyxia and damage to the brachial plexus nerves. The brachial plexus nerves are found at the base of the neck. When the nerves are damaged, a baby can suffer paralysis of the arm and hand. TREATMENT: The majority of brachial plexus injuries resolve on their own over the course of several months to a year, but physical therapy is usually recommended following birth. For permanent injuries, physical therapy can strengthen nerves that are partially damaged. Although some surgeries, like nerve grafting and muscle transposition, are carried out after these types of injuries, their ...

When I was 18 years old , doctors told me my chances of getting pregnant were slim to none. I am 30 years old right now and you could imagine my excitement when on may 30,2008 I took a pregnancy test and it said positive. I started crying so bad I was soooo happy, IM PREGNANT i pretty much screamed it. Well on September 16th I was 21 weeks 5 days pregnant, I went to my doctors appointment and listened to her heartbeat and they said everything was great. By the time i got home from RI i live in Ma...My pants felt wet and i knew i didnt pee myself so what the hell was it? Started getting cramps so i decided to go to the ER, where they told my cervix was 4cm dialated and there was nothing they could do but wait, and that my water will probably break. 2 hours after getting to woman and infants, my water broke and i knew my baby was dying. They told me that I had to deliver her. Knowing she was dead. So on September 17,2008 I have birth to a beautiful 14 oz baby girl with brown hair and we named her Brooke Elizabeth Backlund. Its still very hard for me so if anyone wants some conversation please feel free to write or email me at ahzriel27@yahoo.com I look forward to talking to anyone about this. Thank you and God Bless Sincerely, Sharon
CBS Evening News, September 30, 2008. Katie Couric asks Sarah Palin about her stance on abortion - specifically in the cases of incest and rape - and the "morning after" pill. Notice that Sarah Palin only says a woman shouldn't go to jail for aborting their rapist's baby. She's being honest about that. But what she's not mentioning is that the anti-choice movement is trying to make it illegal for doctors to perform abortions. Those doctors who do perform them would go to jail. So you girls are fine as long as you take care of it yourself with a coat hanger in the bathroom.

[Please read] Behold the voluptuous woman: exotically dancing, bathing, sword-fighting, romancing, regally presiding, and pleading as a damsel in distress. You are watching actress Debra Paget in her (dual) role as Princess Shalimar/Taura in the 1954 Fox film PRINCESS OF THE NILE. Dazzling Debra Paget was a gifted, "exotica" actress who performed--with Romantic élan--in a tremendous variety of colorful roles in the 1950s. Debra's talents as an actress and dancer matched her physical beauty as a woman. Among her acting gifts was a rare ability to deliver her spoken lines with the most exquisite and compelling feminine grace. Onscreen, she is always a passionate presence of "banked fires." Whenever Debra Paget speaks, the words are molten. Also appearing in the film: Jeffrey Hunter as "the hero" Prince Haidi; Michael Rennie as "the villain" Rama Khan; Michael Ansara (a staple presence in films of this sort as well as actress Barbara Eden's future husband) as Rama Khan's "partner in crime"; Edgar Barrier as the evil Shaman; and Dona Drake as "queen's maid" (Dona was no stranger to North African roles—see her also in Hope and Crosby's "Road to Morocco"). Debra Paget "returned to Egypt" as Shila in CLEOPATRA'S DAUGHTER, a foreign film released domestically in 1963. Side-note for the curious and demanding: Debra Paget brought her "Nile act" to Vegas in the 1950s. Please refer to my DEBRA PAGET SRO video for some jackpot views. Side-note for the statistical: Debra Paget was ...

Bravo! - Liz Smith "Just a gal from from Nebraska" and actor (Holt McCallany)'s mother, at 85, "Queen of Cabaret", Julie Wilson still tosses her famed "Red Boa" around like "nobody's business". This clip, from her Cabaret Show, was filmed at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, in New York City. Undoubtedly "a knockout" in her teens, Julie won the "Miss Omaha Pageant". Unfortunately she was forced to return her crown when the mother of her runner-up researched the County birth records and found that "little Julia" was 3 months shy of the "pageant age requirement". She's been, "A Bad Woman', ever since. Julie headed to New York City during World War II and found work in two of Manhattan's leading nightclubs, the Latin Quarter and the Copacabana. She made her Broadway debut in the 1946 revue "Three to Make Ready". In 1951, she moved to London to star in the West End production of "Kiss Me, Kate" and remained there for four years, appearing in shows such as "South Pacific" and "Bells Are Ringing" while studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. She returned to New York to replace Joan Diener in "Kismet". Additional Broadway credits include "The Pajama Game" (1954), "Jimmy" (1969), "Park" (1970), and "Legs Diamond" (1988), for which she received a Tony Award nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She also toured in "Show Boat", "Panama Hattie", "Silk Stockings", "Follies", "Company", and "A Little Night Music". Wilson's television credits include regular roles on ...

Baby Born Onboard Flight KU411 Last October, I went with my mom to the Philippines to visit family and friends. We took the Kuwait Airways flight which left Bangkok at around noon. There were only a few passengers onboard that particular flight, mostly OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) from Kuwait going back home for the 'All Souls Day'. My mom and I were both prepared to take a short nap, hoping that by the time the stewardess served food we would be refreshed. Just as soon as the plane took off, I noticed some commotion over at the front, just around 10 rows away from where we were seated. A cabin crew -- later we learned he was the purser -- seemed troubled. He went back and forth between the cockpit and the passenger. I sensed that something seriously wrong must be happening over there. Just minutes after the plane was steady and the 'fasten seatbelts' light went off, the captain announced for any physicians onboard. When I looked around and saw that no one did anything, I turned to my mom who was half asleep. She practiced nursing years ago before she switched to teaching kindergarten kids English. If there weren't any doctors onboard, then my mom could at least dig up the theories and skills from the rusty parts of her memory and put it to good use. My mom got up and went over to the passenger, informing the cabin crew that she was a nurse and asked if there is anything she could do to help. It turned out that a pregnant 23-year-old woman was in labor!! Four nurses ...

In an historic effort to eliminate maternal and child deaths and improve the health of women and children around the world, a global coalition of governments and organizations has come together to launch a major drive called Deliver Now for Women + Children. Every year over 10 million mothers and children die from mostly preventable causes. Every minute of every day, a woman dies needlessly during pregnancy or childbirth. Every three seconds a child under five dies. Four million newborns die in their first four weeks of life, 3 million of those in the first week. And with 42 percent of pregnant women around the world experiencing a complication, up to 15 percent of which are life-threatening, the issue of protecting the lives of women and children during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond is one of the most critical facing the world today.
