AC Joint Sprain The acromioclavicular joint (AC Joint) is found at the top of the shoulder and forms the junction between the acromion on the scapula (shoulder blade) and the clavicle (collar bone). This joint forms the highest point of the shoulder. The AC joint functions to allow the individual to raise their arm above their head. There are three ligaments which join the two bones and form the AC Joint. Straining any of these ligaments can cause pain in the shoulder. Most of the time strain to these ligaments occurs due to a dislocation or separation. These injuries happen most often in contact sports during a collision, a fall on the tip of the shoulder, or a fall on an outstretched arm. Treatment options include RICE techniques (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for the days following the injury as well as keeping the arm in a sling. This KT Tape application facilitates resting and pain relief through inhibition and increased blood flow, as well as support. Proper diagnosis of the source of your pain is vital to creating a treatment plan to reduce pain and improve function. Your professional medical provider has the tools and expertise to diagnose and develop a treatment plan for your specific condition. Jerry Hesch applies Hesch Method to chronic shoulder pain/ impingement: this is an atypical impingement that was not inside the shoulder joint, but above it and medially in the acromioclavicular joint. the acromion is part of the scapula, and the scapula was stuck in elevation and protraction causing a faulty axis of motion in the a/c joint. His symptoms were primarily sharp pain in front of clavice espeially when lifting arms over the head, soreness and stiffness in trapezius muscle, midline lumbar back pain. treatment took less than 5 minutes, and Jerry taught him what to do to maintain the correction. The injury took place 7 years prior during motor vehicle accident. Patient had x-rays and Orthopedic consults in the interim without resolution. A month post-treatment, shoulder was asymptomtic for the first time in 7 years and back ain was significantly improved.
