Kepiro was cleared of involvement in a massacre of over 1000 civilians in 1942. Sandor Kepiro, a Hungarian national recently acquitted of Holocaust-era war crimes, dies at the age of 97. A Hungarian court cleared Kepiro on July 18th of involvement in the massacre of more than 1000 civilians in the Serb city of Novi Sad during World War Two. Kepiro, who was under constant medical surveillance while the verdict was delivered, served as a gendarme during the war. At the time, parts of Serbia were occupied by troops from Hungary, then allied with Nazi Germany. More than 1000 civilians -- Serbs, Jews and Roma -- were killed in the 1942 Novi Sad massacre, ordered in retaliation for attacks by partisans. The prosecution had said Kepiro was involved in a series of events in which people were rounded up and sent to their deaths before a firing squad. Kepiro was also charged with being a member of a death squad that murdered people in their homes. He denied committing murder or knowing about the crimes at the time. Kepiro lived in Argentina from 1948 to 1996. He was spotted in 2006 in Budapest by the Nazi-hunting Simon Wiesenthal Center, which informed Hungarian authorities.

Muntinlupa court acquits 'Alabang Boys' By Aie Balagtas See The Philippine Star Updated August 26, 2011 07:00 PM Zoom MANILA, Philippines -- A Muntinlupa court acquitted today two members of the "Alabang Boys" from drug trafficking charges due to a technicality. In a 46-page decision, Judge Juanita Guerrero of Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 204 noted the lapses of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on the custody of the illegal drugs seized from Jorge Joseph and Richard Brodett. Guerrero said PDEA's buy-bust operation against suspects on Sept. 19, 2008 was "valid", but "the link in the custody of the drug evidence," as required by Section 21 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, "has been broken." "The failure of the prosecution therefore to establish all the links in the chain of custody is fatal to the case," Guerrero said. Brodett is a resident of the posh Ayala Alabang Village, while Joseph is the son of radio personality Johnny Midnight. They were arrested for selling 60 pieces of ecstasy worth P750 each to a PDEA agent. Several grams of cocaine and dried marijuana leaves were also confiscated inside the car of Brodett. The judge said the testimony of PDEA forensic chemist Rona Mae Aguillon as to when she examined the confiscated drugs and the time the items were presented to the media by then PDEA chief Dionisio Santiago placed the court "in a quandary." Based on Aguillon's testimony, she started examining the drugs at 12:15 pm of ...
A sailor who was accused of being a paedophile by a sting broadcast on a national cable network has been acquitted after a judge threw the case out of court. Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Roisman appeared on NBC Dateline's To Catch A Predator five years ago, where he was accused of trying to have sex with an online decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl. But yesterday Mr Roisman's mother whooped with delight as a judge threw the case out after just six days of testimony and accused the programme's makers of entrapment. 'I'm ready to move on with my life,' Mr Roisman told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. He was kicked out of the Navy when the allegations became public. Judge Arthur Wick found prosecutors had failed to prove Mr Roisman had a 'specific intent' to commit the crime he was accused of - attempting lewd acts with a child under age 14. In reaching his decision, Judge Wick slammed the tactics used by online watchdog Perverted Justice, NBC's partner in the investigation, which he suggested lacked credibility and engaged in entrapment. A Dutch court on Thursday acquitted controversial right-wing populist politician Geert Wilders on all charges relating to anti-Islamic statements he made in his films and on the Internet. The court said Wilders' comments had been part of a legitimate public debate. After nearly six months, a trial against Dutch firebrand Geert Wilders ended Thursday in Amsterdam. A court acquitted the right-wing populist politician on charges of incitement, racial hatred and discrimination against Muslims. In his verdict, leading judge Marcel van Oosten said that, while Wilders' statements were indeed offensive to Muslims, they were also part of the legitimate political debate. Wilders' claim that Islam is a violent religion and his demands for an immigration ban for Muslims had to be viewed in the context of the larger societal debate about immigration policies, the judge argued. He said the statements could not be directly blamed for increasing levels of discrimination against Dutch Muslims. Wilders' supporters greeted the ruling, and the politician himself smiled as he left the courtroom. The politician had been on trial since October 2010 because he compared the Koran with Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" in Internet forums and in "Fitna" , a film he made that was extremely critical of Islam. In his closing statement, Wilders said that his controversial statements against Islam were protected by the right to free speech. Wilders said he believed the process of Islamization presents a ...

"I am sorry that, as you put it, Serbs feel unhappy and angry. However, I don't think like that. To me, there is other side, political side who thinks like that," said Naser Oric to ATV, as reported by Serbia's B92. The former commander of Bosnian defence forces in Srebrenica, Naser Oric, was cleared by a UN Court Thursday of war crimes against Serbs - a decision he hailed as vindicating his men. Serbian government propaganda has been particularly active in justifying Srebrenica genocide by claiming that over '3000 Serb civilians' were murdered around Srebrenica. This type of propaganda has long been discredited by the International Criminal Tribunal, Serbia's Human Right Watch, and Bosnia's State-level Research and Documentation Center. About 151 Serbs died around Srebrenica, compared to more than 8400 Bosniaks. The figure of "3000 Serb civilians," which Srebrenica genocide justifiers constantly cite, was originally propagated by another Srebrenica genocide denier, Milivoje Ivanisevic from Belgrade. Ivanisevic himself contributed to the horrific massacres by supplying Serb Army with bogus lists of the so called "war criminals from Srebrenica" in 1995. In 1992, Srebrenica was flooded by thousands of Bosniak refugees. It was a UN-protected enclave until July 11, 1995, when it was overrun by Bosnian Serb forces who then forcibly expelled tens of thousands of refugees, and killed more than 8000 men, children, and elderly. In 2006, Oric was initially found guilty of failing ...
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Even though Ryan Ward was acquitted of killing his great-grandmother, he wants the real killer found because, he said, his name will otherwise never be cleared. Ruth Boyd, 80, was beaten and then set on fire in November 2008. Ward was arrested in May 2009 and waited for his trial for nearly two years. Once a jury heard the evidence, they found him not guilty. On Friday, nearly three weeks after the verdict, Ward, his mother, two aunts and an uncle laid out their concerns at a news conference. "I want them to find the murderer," Ward said. "They know I didn't do it, they knew that from day one. It took 12 jurors that weren't even black, who didn't know me, who could have thrown me away for the rest of my life." Ward believes police overlooked associates of his uncle, who has a history of dealing drugs. They claim there were many holes in the investigation and authorities should not close the case. "This has destroyed our lives, and it's not about a party, rejoicing saying my son is home," Robbin James-Garcia said. "I want someone to find my grandmother's killer," Ward said. "I was in jail for 22 months and to go through day-to-day with people making statements about me, my whole family could go anywhere without someone pointing fingers, something needs to be done. And something will be done."

A benefit show was staged in Los Angeles short after to raise money to help pay-off Fisher's legal bills. A Toronto Chinatown grocer and his two co-accused have been found not guilty on charges of assault and forcible confinement. David Chen, his cousin and his nephew were all charged in the case, which received national attention when it was discovered the trio were arrested after catching a thief who tried to steal from their store. When their trial began earlier this month, all three pleaded not guilty. On Friday, in delivering his verdict, Justice Ramez Khawly told the court that the case had become a cause célèbre, garnering attention from coast to coast. He was critical of both the prosecution and the defence, but in the end he dismissed the charges against all three defendants. Khawly said the accused were justified under the law in making the arrest. Storeowners in Toronto's Chinatown say they're victimized daily by shoplifters and when they report the crimes police do not respond quickly enough. They claimed Chen was the real victim. The charges stem from a May 23, 2009, incident in which Chen, owner of the Lucky Moose Food Mart on Dundas Street West, and the others apprehended a man who had been stealing plants from the store. The man who was nabbed by Chen, Anthony Bennett, pleaded guilty in August 2009 to stealing from the store and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. Bennett was initially caught on security footage stealing from the store, but he returned an hour later. At that time, Chen, 36, and the two employees tied up the man and locked him in the back of a ...
Toronto shop keeper, David Chen was acquitted of assault and forcible confinement charges after he made a citizens arrest earlier this year. Chen had enough of people stealing from his China town store. The police have an unacceptable response time to such calls. Police can take up to an hour or longer to respond and by then the perpetrator is long gone. On the day in question Anthony Bennett stole some flowers from Chen's store and got away. Bennett returned later again to steal more flowers and Chen chased him down. With the help of two of Chen's employees, they tied Bennett up and threw him into the back of a van. One of the issues in Chen's case was that he waited too long after the theft to make the citizens arrest. Under current Canadian law, a citizen's arrest can only be made during the commission of the offence. MP Olivia Chow (MP of Chen's riding) has introduced a private member's bill to change the law, allowing more time for a citizen's arrest to be made. Anthony Bennett was earlier jailed for thirty days for stealing the plants. Bennett admitted at Chen's trial that he returned to Chen's China town store, The Lucky Moose Food Mart to steal again.
