The same day MCA passed away the Label GMOs campaign in California had a celebration potluck en route to ultimately being passed in the ballot initiative. As I describe in this video, I feel slightly connected to Adam Yauch and especially his creativity and activism for a free Tibet and more. I wanted to do something to express how MCA's life helped clear the way for me to be involved in the greatest activism to me, which includes knowing if and when food has genetically engineered organisms in it, because one of our purposes of life is to honor the sovereignty of the genome of the web of life - our natural heritage from the beginning of time. Thus, here is a very, very brief rap on the Label GMOs Initiative Campaign. I hope it will help raise consciousness. If you eat, then you care about unlabeled and incompletely tested GMOs in our food which tend to require lots more poisonous pesticides. If you are sad today about MCA suffering and dying from mouth and throat cancer, we have something in common. In this interview I talked to him about his documentary "Gunnin' For That #1 Spot" which centers on eight of the best young players in the country, and soon-to-be household names like Michael Beasley and Kevin Love. Adam 'MCA' Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies Adam "MCA" Yauch, a founding member of the pioneering rap band Beastie Boys, died Friday after a nearly three-year battle with cancer, the band's publicist said. A torrent of Twitter messages from entertainers lauded Yauch, 47, as a visionary musical artist, filmmaker and humanitarian. "He stood for integrity as an artist. What a loss. He was a very good man," said actor Ben Stiller. Yauch revealed in 2009 that he had a cancerous tumor in a salivary gland. As a result, the band canceled its scheduled concerts and delayed the release of an album. "I started feeling this little lump in my throat, like you would feel if you have swollen glands or something like that, like you'd feel if you have a cold, so I didn't really think it was anything," he said then in a video to fans. Yauch, a self-taught bassist and vocalist, underwent surgery to treat the tumor that year.
Today the music industry and fans of hip hop group The Beastie Boys are mourning the loss of Adam MCA Yauch. The 47 year old Yauch lost his three year battle with salivary- cancer this morning . Upon being diagnosed back in 2009 Yauch was hopeful of treatment and hoped for a speedy recovery that would bring him and bandmates back to the studio to record another album. The Brooklyn-born native formed the hip hop trio back in 1979 and they released their chart-topping debut album "LICENSED TO ILL" in 1986 which garnered hits like "Hold it now, Hit it" and Paul Revere and the rebellious teen anthem You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party! Yauch and the Beastie Boys would go on to record seven more albums and perform in countless world tours all while receiving some of music's highest honors including being inducted in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

Beastie Boys' MC Adam Yauch, known as MCA, has died at the age of 47 from cancer. TMZ confirmed that he had been undergoing treatment for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node, which prevented him from attending the Beasties April induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group had not performed together since 2009. The white rap trio is regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop acts of all time, and helped turn the genre into a mainstream force around the world. They formed in 1981 as a hardcore band, and meshed punk and rap into a singular sensation. A representative told Rolling Stone at the time: "Beastie Boys regret that Adam 'MCA' Yauch will be unable to join Mike 'Mike D' Diamond and Adam 'Adrock' Horovitz at the band's induction into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in April. Mike, Adam and Adam are truly grateful for the honor but with only two of the three Beastie Boys attending, they will unfortunately not be able to perform at the ceremony."
