Alexander Fury: If you could be anyone else for a day who would you trade places with and what you do in their place? - Asked by Jefferson Hack, London. Sunday May 30, 2010 12:38 Lady Gaga: I would be Iman! She's my friend, I can say that. I'd do whatever Iman does in a day. That's probably the most selfish answer I could give! What a fabulous woman. Sunday May 30, 2010 12:38 Alexander Fury: Kurt Vonnegut once said that humans have been telling fantastic stories from the beginning of the time, and that the drama found in such stories is something we constantly try to emulate in our own lives. With your music and aesthetic, are you another fantastic story-teller, or are you showing us what real life can be? - Asked by Nabil Azadi, Auckland, New Zealand. Sunday May 30, 2010 12:39 Lady Gaga: Both. I'm telling you a lie in a vicious effort that you will repeat my lie over and over until it becomes true. Sunday May 30, 2010 12:39 Alexander Fury: What would you call the movie about your life? - Asked by Jonas Åkerlund, Sweden. Sunday May 30, 2010 12:40 Lady Gaga: Born This Way. Sunday May 30, 2010 12:40 Alexander Fury: Warhol is such a big influence in your work, and Madonna is as well. How is it having a personal relationship with her now? After all she did know Warhol, and I think we can state he's your biggest influence. Meeting you for 1 minute was so surreal (you gave me an autograph after a concert.) I can't even imagine having a personal relationship with someone I adore ...

Ari Juels visits Google's San Francisco office to present his book "Tetraktys". This event took place on Mar 5, 2010, as part of the Authors@Google series. International computer security expert Ari Juels brings his extraordinary talents to fiction in a literary thriller that spans the centuries. Cryptographer and classicist Ambrose Jerusalem is a UC Berkeley graduate student with a beautiful girlfriend and a comfortable future, until the National Security Agency recruits him to track a strange pattern of computer break-ins. Individually, they might not mean much a State Department officialdiscovers a peculiar series of incriminating appointments in her computer calendar dating back to 18th century France; a corrupt president of the International Monetary Fund is startled by an oracular voice from his computer charging him with crimes against divine numerology and God but together, they provide disturbing evidence that someone has broken RSA encryption, the security lynchpin protecting the world s computer systems. Even more bizarre, a secret cult of latter-day followers of Pythagoras, the great Greek mathematician and philosopher who believed reality could be understood only through a mystical system of numbers, appears to be behind the attacks. With his deep knowledge of both cryptography and classical antiquity, Ambrose is the government s best chance to uncover the cult. Soon Ambrose discovers he is not only the hunter but the hunted, and the game is not simply code ...

Full Playlist: www.youtube.com Perhaps the greatest conqueror of all time, Alexander of Macedonia is one of the most famous people to have ever lived. Though he had many personality flaws he is best remembered for his accomplishments, which were unmatched in the ancient world and in many ways remain unmatched today. His enemies knew him as The Devil King, his critics considered him a reckless narcissist, some believed he was the son of Zeus, many of his subjects adored him. For his unmatched achievements and brilliant military campaigns we know him as Alexander the Great.

Amr ibn al 'Aas conquest in 642 Several historians told varying accounts of an Arab army led by Amr ibn al 'Aas sacking the city in 642 after the Byzantine army was defeated at the Battle of Heliopolis. Some historians, including Alfred J. Butler, argue that, when the commander Amr ibn al-Aas asked the Caliph Umar on what to do with the library he gave the famous answer: "They will either contradict the Koran, in which case they are heresy, or they will agree with it, in which case they are superfluous[citation needed]." It is said that the Arabs subsequently burned the books to heat bathwater for the soldiers.[21][22] Burning and destruction of the Library of Alexandria was reported to be the first act of sacking after Amr ibn al 'Aas forces entered the city.[1] It was also said that the Library's collection was still substantial enough at this late date to provide six months' worth of fuel for the baths. The first Western account of the book destruction was in Edward Pococke's 1663 translation of History of the Dynasties, and it was dismissed as a hoax or propaganda as early as 1713 by Fr. Eusèbe Renaudot. Over the centuries, numerous succeeding scholars have agreed with Fr. Renaudot's conclusion, including Alfred J. Butler, Victor Chauvin, Paul Casanova and Eugenio Griffini.[19] More recently, in 1990, Middle East scholar Bernard Lewis argued that the original account may not be true, but that it survived over time because it was a useful account for the great twelfth ...
Alexander the Great had a vision of a unified and civilized world, with himself as its leader, and split vast quantities of blood trying to achieve it. Such was his power that his influence prevails in our lives today. Yet there is much about him we still do not know. Greek archaeologist Liana Souvaltzis digs under the gaze of the world's media. For years, she has been searching for one of the great mysteries of ancient history--Alexander the Great's final resting place. Combing the mountains and valleys of Egypt's remote western desert, she continues her quest despite universal scepticism. However, Liana's search is highlighting interest in the work of modern academics who are discovering new clues about this extraordinary leader. Alexander was taught the arts and sciences by Aristotle. A brilliant military tactician, he worshipped the god Amun whom he regarded as his father. He was epileptic and homosexual and when his partner died he sacrificed the entire 5000 occupants of a village for him. After a drinking bout in Babylon, the dying Alexander asked to be buried in Siwa. His golden sarcophagus was put into a vast mobile temple and taken to Egypt, where it seems to have disappeared. Dr. Rosalie David of Manchester University heads a team of forensic scientists ready to go to Egypt at short notice to help with major discoveries. If Liana ever finds Alexander, his DNA might solve questions about his parentage and whether he was poisoned. Alexander's legacy was the ...
Engineering An Empire: Greece: Age of Alexander In 438 BC the Parthenon was completed. This masterpiece is the crowning achievement for the Greek people. Without Alexander the Great, it is possible Greece's Golden Era would have been just a footnote in history. Tens of thousands would die during Alexander's relentless attacks on Persia and Egypt, yet, his armies carried Greek life, culture and values far abroad and this empire became known as the "Hellenistic" world. Greece's amazing engineering achievements and ideas are still with us today.
First part of our no-budget epic post-apoc movie: Ardea. Screened at the Icon2009 Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Roleplaying, in Tel Aviv. Synopsis: A student of "The Intertribal Academy of New Arkmar" in the 25th century tells of Ardea, a revered heroine from the 24th century. She tries to find the true Ardea in the tangle of fiction spun around her. Ardea, who was born in a pastoral tribe and wedded at the age of 14, is known for killing her husband with the aid of poisoned mustard, wearing his clothes and going abroad, promoting a quiet revolution convincing other women to demand rights they never had before in their tribal society. Ardea has become infamous as a danger to the society but later, as times changed, she became a symbol of liberation and struggle for equality. Her admirers are especially many in the city of Arkmar, which she helped to revive and turn into the first equalitarian town in the land. The student questions Ardea's alleged achievements and acts of heroism and asks weather the heroine did really mean to convey the message we put in her mouth. The FYROMian user "baronnkmd" when he uploaded this documentary, "forgot" to mention that this is a History channel production for the GREEK history week, he removed these scenes in order to distort it and present the Macedonians as non Greeks. Macedonia was an ancient Greek kingdom, before Philip it was less advanced than the rest Greek kingdoms and city states that is why the rest of the Greeks looked down on it. Less advanced yes but still Greek, so the FYROMians use that to say that Macedonians were not Greeks and at the same time they try to steal their history, something that is silly since the FYROMians are Slavs and nothing relates them to the ancients. Anyway when Philip came to power he brought scholars from Athens and reformed his kingdom thus reforming it to an equally respected Greek kingdom with the aspiration to unite all Greek states into one, as he did. In celebration of the greatest athletic achievement by a man on a psychedelic journey, No Mas and artist James Blagden proudly present the animated tale of Dock Ellis' legendary LSD no-hitter. In the past few years we've heard all too much about performance enhancing drugs from greenies to tetrahydrogestrinone, and not enough about performance inhibiting drugs. If our evaluation of the records of athletes like Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Marion Jones, and Barry Bonds needs to be revised downwards with an asterisk, we submit that that Dock Ellis record deserves a giant exclamation point. Of the 263 no-hitters ever thrown in the Big Leagues, we can only guess how many were aided by steroids, but we can say without question that only one was ever thrown on acid. Sadly, the great Dock Ellis died last December at 63. A year before, radio producers Donnell Alexander and Neille Ilel, had recorded an interview with Ellis in which the former Pirate right hander gave a moment by moment account of June 12, 1970, the day he no-hit the San Diego Padres. Alexander and Ilels original four minute piece appeared March 29, 2008 on NPRs Weekend America. When we stumbled across that piece this past June, Blagden and Isenberg were inspired to create a short animated film around the original audio. www.nomas-nyc.com buy Rufus Thomas (Do The) Push and Pull - Part I and II here: bit.ly
So yea, I saw jasonandsamslovechil's video like this and thought the idea was fun and today bored out of my mind in class I started playing around with idea for it. Truthfully there are a number of scenes that I've really related to in my life and I sat there picking a few of them out and then threw this together in an hour. So yea, it came out focusing more on the downsides of my life. Maybe I'll end up doing a more happy one another time. But yea, my life has definitely had its downsides and I've always found characters that relate to them. Some cliff notes: 0:00-0:31 This scene with Carrie&Big is similar to a series of real arguments that I've had with my current boyfriend. Things have gotten much better though, so don't feel too bad. But I think I've paraphrased Carrie in that scene for sure! lol 0:45-1:18 Caroline feeling like no one loves her and wanting life to be different is something I've struggled with my whole life. Mostly I'm a very confident person but definitely have my strong insecurities like she does here and have spent many a nights drunk and feeling lost and alone. 1:20-1:42 Like Sam I have a very self-destructive personality. I relate to her in so many ways, probably why she's my favorite female character ever. 1:48 - 2:04 Rachel and Finn remind me of a relationship with a certain guy in my life, a guy that you like and likes you and yet he won't be with you and you can't be with him. 2:05 - 2:18 Some of this stuff is actually embarrassing. Like, I ...

Each episode investigates the background of usually one particular modern invention and how it came into being. These explorations are an attempt to locate the "connections" between various historical figures who seemingly had nothing to do with each other in their own times, however once connected, these same figures combined to produce some of the most profound impacts on our modern day world; in a "1+1=3" type of way. It is this type of investigation that is the main idea behind the Knowledge Web project; whereby sophisticated software is used to attempt to discover these subtle connections automatically. The theory of evolution is not without its problems. One scientist says this about life starting on its own: "Amino acids would have to be arranged in an exact sequence to form a protein . . . just like the letters in a sentence. Mere laws of chemistry and physics cannot do that. The probability of a protein forming by chance would be 1064 [10 with 64 zeros after it] to 1!" Many people assume the theory of evolution to be true. But can it be scientifically proven? Something is considered scientifically true only if it can be repeatedly verified under laboratory conditions. The claim that life sprang up on its own out of a long impersonal process cannot pass this test of truth. That is why evolution remains only a theory. So if you're ever tempted to doubt the Genesis account of the creation story, consider the alternative. The odds against even a simple protein creating itself are astronomical. How much more reasonable to believe God and His Word: "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible" (Hebrews 11:3). Isn't it more reasonable to believe that God designed and created the universe? (Genesis 1:1). — Dennis Fisher All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful— The Lord God made them all. —Alexander All creation points to the almighty Creator.

Housing prices are crashing. Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Washington Mutual, have been acquired for pennies on the dollars. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are under Federal Government conservatorship. US Commercial banks have tightened lending standards, and a credit crunch threatens global financial markets. All of this stokes fears of an economic slowdown that many believe could result in a deep recession for the US and the rest of the world. The US Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board developed a plan for a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, and this bailout will be discussed by a panel of experts on the CSULB campus. The panel will discuss what caused the crisis, what the bailout means, what the implications of the bailout are, and how Main Street, not just Wall Street, is affected.
bellydance-Belly dance is a Western term for a traditional Middle Eastern dance form. Some American devotees refer to it simply as "Middle Eastern Dance." In the Arabic language it is known as raqs sharqi (رقص شرقي; literally "oriental dance") or sometimes raqs baladi (رقص بلدي; literally "national" or "folk" dance). The term "raqs sharqi" may have originated in Egypt. In Greece and the Balkans, belly dance is called tsiftetelli (τσιφτετέλι). The term belly-dance is a creation of Orientalism, and is first attested in English in 1899, translating French danse du ventre Native to North Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, belly dancing is based on one of the oldest social dances in world history. Much of the support for this theory stems from the similarities between poses in ancient Egyptian artwork and the modern dance.[citation needed] There are two forms of belly dancing. The first is called raqs baladi, a social dance performed by people of all ages and by both sexes, during festive occasions- such as weddings- and other social gatherings for fun and celebration. The second form- the more theatrical version- is called raqs sharqi, and it is this type that is most popular in America today. Like raks baladi, raks sharqi is performed by both male and female dancers. Where belly dancing is a native dance, boys and girls learn it from an early age. As with many social dances, children learn it informally, by observing and imitating their elders during family and community ...

Does anybody else notice the Koala plushie? The lyrics by many requests. Travelling in a fried-out combie On a hippie trail, head full of zombie I met a strange lady, she made me nervous She took me in and gave me breakfast And she said, Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover. Buying bread from a man in brussels He was six foot four and full of muscles I said, do you speak-a my language? He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich And he said, I come from a land down under Where beer does flow and men chunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover. Lying in a den in bombay With a slack jaw, and not much to say I said to the man, are you trying to tempt me Because I come from the land of plenty? And he said, Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah) Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover.
