This is the checkered flag for the 2009 American Le Mans Series race at the final round of the season, Laguna Seca. The camera was turned off just seconds before the huge crash that ensued after a knock down- drag out last lap battle between the two GT2 leaders. Damn!
Developed for racing series based on the international FIA GT3 regulations, the stunning Porsche 911 GT3 R succeeds the 911 GT3 Cup S and is delivered to customers ready-to-race. The starting point in developing the Porsche 911 GT3 R was the latest 3.8-litre Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which will compete in the 2010 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup supporting selected Formula One races. However, the Porsche 911 GT3 R - which weighs just 1200 kg (2646 lb) - has a larger 4.0-litre six-cylinder 'boxer' engine delivering 480 bhp and other technical developments designed to improve the performance of the car further still. For example, an anti-lock braking system, traction control and an electronic throttle with 'blip' function on gearbox down-changes make it much easier for drivers to get used to the Porsche 911 GT3 R race car than the prior Cup S model, with the consequence that the new car is also more appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver rather than purely experienced professionals. The main focus with this new car was to deliver even better driveability and easier handling. Additional flared wheel arches front and rear emphasise the purposeful, wide track of the Porsche 911 GT3 R. And like all second generation versions of the 911, the new Porsche 911 GT3 R also comes with striking LED rear light clusters. For optimal aerodynamic performance, the underbody of the car is completely covered and features a rear diffuser and, compared to the prior Cup S model, the range of ...
The closing minutes of the 2009 ALMS finale, featuring two battles, one for the overall victory and the more exciting one for GT2
Motors TV a sélectionné pour vous quelques uns des crashs les plus spectaculaires de la saison 2009.
This is the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) At Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course 2009. This was on a practice day, so i could get up very close to cars with out anybody caring. The Indy Car series along with the GT3 series were here on this day too. Practice days are very good days to go see a race because you can get up very close to cars (even inside the pits in the paddock) and you see cars racing a lot more through out the day!! They don't hold back either. We saw them get 3-wide on the front straight, it was crazy. I highly recommend going to a ALMS race on a practice day because in the paddock some crews invite you into their pit to look at the car very close or you can simply walk into their pit and a crew member will start talking to you!! Feel free to ask any questions.
The Maserati MC12 is a two-seater sports car produced by Maserati to allow a racing variant to compete in the FIA GT Championship. The car entered production in 2004 with 30 cars produced (five of which were not for sale). A further 25 were produced in 2005 making a total of 50 cars available for customers, each of which were pre-sold for €600 000.[5][7] Maserati designed and built the car on the chassis of the Enzo Ferrari but the final car is much larger with less drag coefficient.[7] The MC12 is longer, wider and taller and has sharper nose and smoother curves than the Enzo Ferrari, which has faster acceleration, better braking performance (shorter braking distance) and a higher top speed. The top speed of the Maserati MC12 is 330 kilometres per hour (205 mph) whereas the top speed of the Enzo Ferrari is 350 kilometres per hour (217.5 mph).[7][8] The MC12 was developed to signal Maserati's return to racing after 37 years.[9] The road version was produced to homologate the race version. One requirement for participation in the FIA GT is the production of at least 25 road cars. Three GT1 race cars were entered into the FIA GT with great success. Maserati began racing the MC12 in the FIA GT toward the end of the 2004 season, winning the race held at the Zhuhai International Circuit. The racing MC12s were entered into the American Le Mans Series races in 2005 but exceeded the size restrictions and consequently paid weight penalties due to excess range.
Can racing cars be fast and green? Former British Minister Lord Paul Drayson thinks so. Lord Drayson's resignation was almost as controversial as his 2005 appointment to the post, which followed major contributions to Labour party funds. He then turned his attention to the world of motorsport, and his dream of competing in the most glamorous, prestigious and historic race event; the 24 hours of Le Mans. But Lord Drayson was born partially sighted, and current rules prevent him taking part. His response has been to prove the decision-makers wrong, by entering the American Le Mans series in his bio-powered Aston Martin Vantage GT2 with co-driver, 21 year old Jonny Cocker. Presented by Tiff Needell.

PLEASE READ FIRST: Some highlights of the Star Mazda Series, Speed GT World Challenge, and the American Le Mans four hour race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. I tried getting shots from as many corners as I could, and I stayed on the front straightaway for the start and finish. The finish was very exciting; Adrian Fernandez was getting very close to Gil de Ferran, and although they are in different classes, they were fighting until the end. In the GT class, Flying Lizard's Jorg Bergmeister and Corvette's Magnussen collided on the last lap as they crossed the finish line for the checkered flag, giving Bergmeister the win. Unfortunately, I did not catch the crash, but had a great view of it. At the end of the race, lots of fog was rolling in, and the temperatures were dropping, making for an even more exciting race in the dark. Scott Sharp Incredible Wreck Petit Le Mans 9-24-09
The American Le Mans Series championship-leading Highcroft Acura has had an enormous accident in the second practice session for the Petit Le Mans. The car was launched into a horrifying series of flips and a violent impact with the barriers at Turn 2 when driver Scott Sharp clipped Dirk Werner's Farnbacher Loles Porsche, which was coming out of pits but was still within the blend line. Sharp got out of the wreckage unaided and escaped serious injury. He was walking around and talking to marshals immediately after the crash. It is not yet clear whether the Acura's chassis can be repaired. "That's one of the biggest accidents I've seen," said Sharp's team-mate Dario Franchitti. "I'm glad he seems okay, because that was a big one. We go [IndyCar] testing for Ganassi at Homestead tomorrow, and I only hope they can rebuild it in time for Saturday." The Acura's designer Nick Wirth was equally shaken by the crash. "I am in a bit of a state of shock at the moment," he said. "I am delighted to see him walk away apparently okay from such a big crash. "He appeared to hit the Porsche. I've not seen one that big before here. "I'm just proud of the team that the car stood up to such a big impact. Don't know yet whether the car can be rebuilt, we need to get it back." Sharp and his full-season team-mate David Brabham currently lead De Ferran Acura duo Gil de Ferran and Simon Pagenaud by 17 points going into the final two rounds.

BMW M3 Ride + Massive jump on the end + crash @ Le mans 1979
LONG BEACH, CA Fontana, CA-based Falken Tire, well regarded for its high performance tires, officially entered the 2009 American Le Mans Series highly competitive GT2 class by competing at Long Beach with its in-house-prepared Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. The car was driven by veterans Dominic Cicero and Bryan Sellers and ran on specially prepared Falken AZENIS RT slicks. Qualified in eighth position by Sellers, the Team Falken Tire RSR ran within a second of the race podium-winning #92 BMW car, a considerable accomplishment for a brand new team and tire that has never previously experienced the unforgiving Long Beach street course. The Porsche moved to seventh on the grid after the pole-winning car was sent to the rear for a ride height infraction. Sellers started the race, but reported shifting problems early on. He continued to nurse the car for 30 laps, maintaining his position of seventh, but eventually had to retire the Porsche. The team finished 20th overall and 12th in class. The car was extremely consistent for a long time, Sellers said. I was able to run a steady pace for the whole stint never dropping off more than four-tenths of a lap until we had transmission problems. Co-driver Cicero agreed: The tires were consistent and held up very well in our practices. We feel we have a great product for the 2010 season. Despite our race difficulties, our drivers were very happy with the Falken Azenis RT slicks, added Stephen Mitchell, Falkens Motorsports Manager. The team ...

www.falkentire.com As Falken Tires enters its second year of sports car competition, the tire manufacturer returns to the important and highly regarded American LeMans Series (ALMS) competition where it will once again compete in the series GT2 class. What's different for the ALMS competition 2009 season is this year, Falken is running its own team, based at its corporate headquarters in Fontana, CA. The car is the powerful Porsche 911 RSR. The 3.8-liter boxer engine of the GT3 RSR remains unchanged with the exception of slight improvements in specified areas. The motor delivers 465 hp at 8000 rpm. Weight of the race car is 2700 pounds. To ensure its competitiveness, Falken has developed a special Azenis RT Slick tire for this car, which the company will manufacture in Japan. A dedicated engineering and development crew will attend each ALMS competition event to observe and provide appropriate resources. Falken has developed much of its technology from its motorsports efforts throughout the world, including competition in Super Taikyu, at the 24 hours of the legendary Nurburgring - a punishing race - and the highly regarded Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. As the leading works BMW V12 LMR driven by JJ Lehto was in his 304th lap of the race. Eventually, BMW PR tell us that JJ Lehto's accident was a mechanical failure not driver error. The official press release says that a roll-bar link worked loose and pushed on the throttle linkage. JJ Lehto was left without sufficient time to kill the engine before the impact and suffered cuts to his knee as a result. It was cruel to be robbed of what should have been his second victory here with only four laps left to go, but he will now have to settle for the rest of the American Le Mans series to prove his point. At the Porsche Curves, he was speared off the track and went hard into the wall. The front was struck off and damaged, Lehto seems to be stuck in the car. He's obviously in a lot of pain and seems to have damaged his knee. The marshals have placed him on the sidepod of the car and are waiting for the medics to deal with him. A few minutes later, he is walking but limping. Lehto revealed afterwards, "after we got through the night it was really under control. I think we were four laps ahead of the other. Knowing you have that advantage, and that there shouldn't be any problems, you are just nursing the car. Of course, you have to keep a certain pace anyway, because otherwise you start to make mistakes if you drive too slowly. "Then just before noon at the Porsche Curves, a damper broke, or cut in half. I lost the steering and then the rollbar pushed the accelerator open. No ...
37 cars at the start, 11 safety car interventions, 394 laps of the exacting, hilly American circuit, temperatures in excess of 30°C... and just 4.512 seconds in it at the flag between the only Peugeot 908 HDi FAP present and the N°1 Audi which finally took the spoils at Road Atlanta. Peugeot Sport came to the United States to gain experience as it prepares for its 2009 campaign, and thats exactly what it achieved! The way qualifying unfolded suggested that the 2008 Petit Le Mans would be an extremely close and unrelenting race, and it ended up being an amazing 1000-mile sprint which turned the best-laid strategies on their head from the start. In the hands of Nicolas Minassian, then Stéphane Sarrazin and Christian Klien, the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP faced particularly stiff competition from the American Le Mans Series regulars, namely Audi, Porsche and Acura. And right from the beginning there was a spate of safety car interventions, with a total of seven in the first four hours! Six cars took turns at the front of the particularly buoyant pack and the Peugeot trio spent much of the race crossing swords with the N°2 Audi of Werner/Luhr in particular. At the height of this extraordinarily intense fight, Christian Klien succeeded in posting the fastest race lap with a time of 1m 7.056s on Lap 173, shortly before the midpoint, at which stage there were still eight cars on the same lap! The battle became fiercer still during the second half of the race as the N°1 Audi (McNish ...
