CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer chastised Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen and made her double-down on her apology to Ann Romney for saying Ann had 'never worked a day in her life'. The Romney campaign has spun the comment into a 'war on moms', desperate to drive attention away from the Republican 'war on women' evidenced by anti-women GOP legislation across America (regarding equal pay, reproductive rights, and even drug testing for child support). "Viewpoint" host Eliot Spitzer and Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of The Nation, dive into the debate surrounding Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen's criticism of Ann Romney. Vanden Heuvel points out that Ann Romney shouldn't have to do her husband's political legwork when it comes to women's issues: "Mitt Romney can't outsource his policy on women to his wife and he's trying to do that, as if women are a foreign country and he needs a translator." Did Ann Romney 'Work'? Hilary Rosen, a Democratic strategist (and the parent of two children), says that Ann Romney "has never actually worked a day in her life." Ms. Romney, who "made a choice to stay home and raise five boys" (as she wrote from her brand-new Twitter account), points out that it was "hard work." Few parents would disagree, but was it fair for Ms. Rosen to say Ms. Romney has never "worked"? Ms. Rosen (speaking on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360) followed it up with words that made it clear that she was referring to work in the paid sense: "She's never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing." Few of us would disagree with the premise that Mitt Romney's wife has never dealt with the kinds of economic issues many women — many people — in this country are facing, either. She's never earned a paycheck (that I'm aware of) and never faced (again, as far as I can tell) the possibility of life with no income, or headed a family based only on what she herself could earn in the workforce. But is it fair to say she's never "worked"? The comment created a firestorm (and provoked immediate distancing even from fellow Democrats) because of its hot-button nature. Women who "stay home" have long argued that what they do is indeed work, and that it contributes to the economy and should be valued as such. But ironically, that idea — that raising children is work, that it has an economic value and an economic cost ...

recorded April 12 2012. Top Democrat Strategist Hilary Rosen apologized to Ann Romney after Rosen said that Romney never worked a day in her life and chose to be a stay at home Mom of five boys. This is part Of Obama's War on Women campaign strategy.
The war over women between President Obama and Mitt Romney just went thermonuclear. Romney—who has been polling poorly among female voters—arguably started the fight, claiming that 93 percent of jobs lost during Obama's presidency belonged to women. Obama's campaign hit back, pointing to the Lilly Ledbetter bill that ensures against gender discrimination in payment practices. And in a press call this week, Romney's camp fumbled on a question about whether or not the former Massachusetts governor supported the bill. But things got really heated when democratic operative Hilary Rosen made the comment that Ann Romney "actually never worked a day in her life." The resulting firestorm has seen Mrs. Romney join Twitter and go on Fox News to defend her status as a stay-at-home mother. The good news for Obama is that Rosen doesn't work for his camp. The good news for Romney? His wife may be a real mama grizzly—without all the Sarah Palin baggage.

Two days before last month's Illinois Primary, Mitt Romney held a town hall meeting in Vernon Hills, Illinois. The presumptive Republican nominee recalled how he met his wife, Ann, and when they began dating. Romney then introduced his spouse, who spoke about Mitt's victory in that day's Puerto Rico Primary. "I do have five boys. We're so blessed to have five wonderful daughters-in-law as well and 16 grandchildren," Ann told the supportive crowd that evening. Last night an advisor to the Democratic National Committee, Hilary Rosen, had this to say about Mitt's spouse: "Guess what--his wife has actually never worked a day in her life." On Twitter, Ann fired back, "I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work." Although it's hard to believe when you watch my video, Ann suffers from multiple sclerosis. She is also a breast cancer survivor.

Text Source: bostonherald.com Turns out, Mitt Romney's trouble courting the women's vote isn't exactly a new phenom — even his beloved wife of 43 years played hard-to-get when she first started dating her teenaged sweetheart! "I was very careful about not letting him know how I felt about him," Ann Romney said in a special video released yesterday in honor of the couple's 43rd wedding anniversary. "I think that drove him crazy." And here are some numbers that are driving Mitt's people crazy: According to the Pew Research Center, President Obama has a 20-point advantage over Romney with the gals. And even a Fox News poll has the president leading the former Massachusetts gov among women by 12 points. Hence, the spotlight on Ann, mother of five, grandmother of many and devoted wife who fell in love with her hubby when she was 16. She's been out front on the campaign trail of late talking about how "angry" she and American women are about "the legacy we're going to leave our children and their grandchildren." In the 3-minute video, "The Love Story Continues," paid for the Romney Committee and posted to YouTube yesterday, the former Ann Davis of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., blushes while reminiscing about the boxes of "childish but very sweet" love letters she and Mitt exchanged during Romney's missionary work in France. (They still have them.) The couple wanted to tie the knot upon his return in December 1968, but their parents begged them to wait. "All we wanted to do was just ...
