www.realestateradiousa.com | Kendrick Meek wins Democratic Senate primary in Florida Though he was outspent nearly five-to-one by a wealthy opponent, Rep. Kendrick Meek won the Democratic nomination for Senate in Florida today -- setting the stage for one of this fall's most compelling contests. Meek, a four-term congressman from Miami, beat billionaire Jeff Greene, who poured more than $23 million of his own money into the race. Meek has spent just over $4.7 million, according to disclosure reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. "Floridians want leaders who will fight for them all the time," Meek said, "not just when it helps their own political career or advances an extreme philosophy." The Associated Press called the race for Meek minutes after the last polls closed. "Kendrick ran an aggressive, thoughtful, grassroots campaign, and prevailed over inordinate resources spent against him," Sen. Robert Menendez, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said in a statement. Meek's nomination bucked the anti-incumbent storyline that has dominated this year's primary elections and set up a three-way battle for the Florida seat. Polls show Meek lagging behind Gov. Charlie Crist, a former Republican now running as an independent, and former state lawmaker Marco Rubio, a Republican. An Aug. 19 Quinnipiac University poll found Crist leading Rubio 39% to 32%, with Meek scoring 16% of the vote. USA TODAY lists the race as a tossup on its 2010 election ...

PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!!!!! (Press TV) Australian Electoral Commission has decided to fine citizens who have failed to cast their ballots in the country's general elections. The commission will issue a notice to all non-voters requesting that they either provide a reason for their failure to vote or pay penalties. Australia's compulsory voting system requires citizens show up at their polling stations on Election Day. Around 14 million electors took part in a mandatory vote in the pacific nation on Saturday. The commission says if apparent non-voter cannot provide a valid reason within three weeks, then legally they are obliged to pay a 20-dollar fine. Prosecution proceedings may be instigated against those violators who decline to pay the penalty. If the matter is dealt with in court and the person is found guilty, they may be fined up to $50 plus court expenses. - (AP) WASHINGTON — The company that owned the oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico is accusing BP of withholding critical evidence needed to investigate the cause of the worst offshore oil spill in US history, according to a confidential document obtained by The Associated Press. BP called the claims a publicity stunt. The new complaint by Transocean follows similar complaints by US lawmakers about difficulties obtaining necessary information from BP in their investigations. In a sternly worded letter to BP's attorneys, Transocean said the oil giant has in its sole possession information key to identifying the ...
Wyclef Jean recently revealed his intention to run for President of Haiti. According to emails sent to the associated press Jean is currently in hiding after receiving numerous death threats over his potential candidacy. This all comes before Jean knows if he can legally run for office. Haiti's electoral commission has still not ruled if they will exempt Jean from the residency requirements.
Hip hop artist Wyclef Jean said Tuesday in e-mails to the Associated Press that he was in hiding after receiving death threats. The musician, who is a candidate for Haiti's presidency, said he was told to get out of Haiti and that he was hiding in a secret location in the Caribbean country. Wyclef is waiting to find out from Haiti's electoral commission, whether he will be allowed to run in the November election. Haiti's Constitution requires candidates to have lived in the country for the five consecutive years before the election. Wyclef, who grew up in the US, said his appointment as a roving ambassador in 2007 exempts him from the residency requirement.

A member of Iraq's National Alliance (INA) has warned that the US is possibly attempting to manipulate the results of the country's general elections as the release of the vote tally was postponed again. INA candidate, Entifadh Qanbar told press TV that the United States might try to intervene in the process of vote counting through the High Electoral Commission. "The concern is that how the ballots from each voting center are going to be processed in the computer center inside the Electoral Commission," Qanbar said. "The reason we are insisting on this issue is that we are afraid there is some sort of American intervention inside the Electoral Commission in processing these numbers and may be altering these numbers," he added. Qanbar said that his alliance would not "accept any election results without putting the ballots out to prove that the ballots have been processed and entered in the computer system in a proper way." The Election Commission has postponed until Thursday the announcement of the preliminary results of the country's parliamentary elections with reports suggesting that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's the State of Law Coalition is ahead. Meeting with vote-counters at the Independent High Electoral Commission on Wednesday, top United Nations envoy Ad Melkert called on election officials to release the results as soon as possible, AP reported. "Now we hope, that as soon as possible, preliminary results can be made public because Iraqis have the right to ...
