With just days to go before the elections, airwaves across the nation are saturated with campaign ads. But a shocking number of those ads weren't commissioned by the candidates themselves or the parties they represent. (Oct. 28)

Loksatta party president Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan talking on NTV before GHMC elections. Summary: We still have feudal system and we lack belief that elections are for people and seeing loss in elections as prestige. Parties should fight on plans and policies. Media, parties and people are not distinguishing between general elections, state elections and local elections. In US, people voted on 28 ballot papers on single day. There is no recognition for party other than symbol. People lost confidence in parties but it is not solution. Decentralization is main solution for the problems. People sometimes vote for their caste or religion because there is no value for vote. We choose good doctor or good teacher not the people of our caste. Youth, middle class and women should think about the value of their vote.
Mr CVL Narasimha Rao, Loksatta Party Legal Cell Leader and Loksatta's MP Candidate for Secunderabad in the recent General Elections, files another cheating case against Mr Rosaiah- the current Chief Minister of AP and Mr N. Chandra Babu Naidu - former Chief Minister for not doing enough to remove Hyderabad's problems and thus not fulfilling their promises during elections. Mr CVL Narasimha Rao is a very dynamic and inspiring Leader of Loksatta. His determination to serve the cause of people irrespective of elections makes him a True Politician. Thanks to Loksatta for giving a platform for such good men.
Katari Srinivasa Rao garu, Vice President of Loksatta, explaining the transparency of Loksatta revenues and clear agenda for GHMC elections.
Thiruvananthapuram: Continuing with its impressive performance in the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress- led UDF today retained all three assembly seats where bypolls were held, routing the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF. The LDF suffered a blow in politically sensitive Kannur, where Congress candidate and former CPI-M MP AP Abdullakutty emerged victorious by a margin of 12000 votes over CPI-M's MV Jayarajan. Abdullakutty, who represented Kannur twice in parliament on a CPI-M ticket, was expelled from the party a few months back following serious differences with the CPI-M leadership, after which he joined the Congress. Congress candidates Dominic Presentation trounced CPI-M's PN Sinulal in Ernakulam by over 8000 votes, while his colleague AA Shukur retained Alappuzha seat by defeating G Krishaparasad of CPI by 4000 votes. The November 7 by-polls were necessitated by resignation of sitting Congress MLAs K Sudhakaran (Kannur), KV Thomas (Ernakulam) and KC Venugopal (Alappuzha) on getting elected to Lok Sabha consolidate its Lok Sabha performance of lifting 16 of the 20 seats in the state. The current round of elections were seen as a dress rehearsal for the 2011 assembly polls to be preceded by the civic elections next year. Despite its best efforts and high voltage campaign, the LDF failed to reverse the rout it faced in Parliamentary polls. The outcome of today's bypoll will not have any impact on the stability of the government, which is entering its fourth year. The campaigning for ...

The Dallas Morning News reprinted an article from The Washington Post written by Blaine Harden. This article was an editorial masquerading as a legitimate news article. The placement of just a few words morphed a news story to an opinion piece, exposing the bias of the American news media. A media dedicated to re-education and indoctrination and reporting the news subverted. In reference to the possibility of the Liberal Democratic Party not winning a majority of seats in the forthcoming elections, the article reported it as "throw the bums out." The slanted, bias article went on to evaluate current prime minister Mr. Taro Aso as being "tone deaf." - Excellent example illustrating the decline of the American news media. The first of five phases of voting has begun in India, which is holding the world's largest parliament elections. More than two-and-half-million security officers are on duty in the 15 states and two territories where balloting began Thursday. Polling has been disrupted in several states, where attacks on polling booths and security forces are blamed on communist insurgents. For the 15th time since independence, Indians are choosing their national lawmakers. Security is especially heavy in several central and eastern states, where Maoist insurgents, known as Naxalites, are attempting to disrupt polling. Six members of a para-military force, on their way to guard polling booths in Jharkhand, died when their vehicle was hit by a land mine. Police are also keeping a close eye on thousands of other voting centers, considered vulnerable to party activists taking control of polling booths. Here in Andhra Pradesh, the incumbent government at the state and national level -- led by the Congress Party -- is pinning its hopes on voters such as dental surgeon Minhaj Uddin Ahmed. He told VOA News the electorate is making its decision based on the performance of the government and what it has been providing for the public. "All these things we need to take into consideration before voting. Nowadays, people are well acquainted and very much aware of the political environment here. People are very much happy with this particular government right now in Andhra Pradesh," he said. At ...
