Brad Banks, much like Shonn Greene, came from the ranks of the unknown to Heisman candidate in just one short year. Brad Banks played quarterback for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2001 and 2002. A junior college transfer from Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi, Banks spent most of his junior season as backup to then QB Kyle McCann. In 2001, Banks did show signs of things to come in limited play and finished the season with 582 pass yards with 4 touchdowns while completing 60.3% of his passes. Iowa finished that season with a 7-5 record after a 19-16 win over Texas Tech in the 2001 Alamo Bowl, the Hawkeyes first bowl appearance since 1997. The next season Brad Banks would start every game at quarterback and lead the Hawkeyes to one of the greatest regular seasons in Iowa football history. Iowa started the 2002 season with victories over Akron and at Miami (OH), before squandering a 24-7 halftime lead, in the 3rd game of the season, to lose at home to Iowa State, 36-31, which would end up being the Hawkeyes only regular season loss. The Hawkeyes would bounce back from that loss with back-to-back thrilling wins the next two weeks to open Big Ten play. Iowa almost wasted another big lead the next week at #12 Penn State, when the Nittany Lions came back from a 35-13 fourth quarter deficit to force overtime. Banks connected with CJ Jones for a 6-yard TD pass, his 4th on the day, in the first overtime period to give Iowa the victory. The next week at home against Purdue is ...
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government watchdog overseeing economic stimulus spending said Thursday that, in its rush to take credit for saving hundreds of thousands of jobs, the Obama administration was overly confident in its job-counting and did not acknowledge significant errors in the figures. Numbers released last month identified more than 640000 jobs linked to stimulus projects around the country. Despite warning signs that the numbers were flawed, the White House said the public could have confidence in them and they proved the administration was on track save or create 3.5 million jobs by the end of next year. Since then, tens of thousands of problems have been documented, from the substantive to the clerical. Republicans have been able to use those flaws to attack what so far is the signature domestic policy of Obama's presidency. The criticism has resonated, even though economic data shows that overall government efforts, from President George W. Bush's bank bailout to President Barak Obama's stimulus, have improved the economy. Fewer than 1 in 10 Americans think the stimulus has created any jobs so far, according to a CBS News poll this week. Earl Devaney, the watchdog whose group compiled and released the job data, said he could not certify the numbers were correct. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., asked whether the administration should have been more conservative and acknowledged it had ''no idea'' whether the jobs were being counted correctly. ''Wouldn't that be a ...

Fox News' Bill O'Reilly loved, loathed in survey Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:56pm EST By Paul J. Gough NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Guess it's true: You either love or hate Bill O'Reilly. A Pew Research Center study found that the Fox News Channel commentator, who has long had the most popular show in cable news, tops the list as the public's favorite and least favorite campaign journalist. O'Reilly was cited as favorite by 5% of those surveyed and least favorite by 6%. To be fair, 50% didn't have a favorite, and 60% didn't have a least favorite. Also among the favorites, all cited by under 3%, were Tom Brokaw, Sean Hannity, Charles Gibson, Keith Olbermann, Anderson Cooper, Brian Williams, Wolf Blitzer and Katie Couric. Couric drew 5% for least favorite, with less than 3% for Rush Limbaugh, Olbermann, Hannity, Chris Matthews, Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. O'Reilly can console himself as being the favorite campaign correspondent of 9% of Republicans -- the highest for the question -- and the least favorite of 10% of Democrats. Democrats tapped Olbermann as their favorite, while Couric was the least favorite of Republicans. It was Couric's interview with Sarah ...

Game synopsis: St. Francis DeSales wins a thriller against rival Bishop Watterson Friday night under the lights. In a low-scoring affair, both defenses played lights-out football, in a game where both offenses were highly touted. At the half Watterson was ahead 6-3 with either team able to punch the football into the end zone. In the second half it was much of the same, both defenses were unrelenting, with DeSales scoring on a 34-yard field goal from Mark Sherman. With six seconds left in the game DeSales' running back Jeff Walsh bounced outside and scampered into the end zone to win the game 13-6. DeSales is (7-0), will probably hold on to the #1 spot in the Division II AP poll.
