Ares Rocket has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
Ares 5 Stage Rocket Test, Utah Desert, USA, The United States tested their Ares series solid rocket with success on Aug. 31st 2010. This was a test that the international space community watched closely. This rocket produced (+) 22 million horse power. Flames exited the nozzle at ~ mach 3. Sand around nozzle turned to glass.
Alliant Techsystems and NASA conducted a successful ground test earlier today of the second Ares five-segment Development Motor (DM-2). The successful test is an important milestone in the development of America's next generation of launch vehicles. With a loud roar and mighty column of flame, NASA and ATK Aerospace Systems successfully completed a two-minute, full-scale test of the largest and most powerful solid rocket motor designed for flight. The motor is potentially transferable to future heavy-lift launch vehicle designs. The stationary firing of the first-stage development solid rocket motor, dubbed DM-2, was the most heavily instrumented solid rocket motor test in NASA history. More than 760 instruments measured 53 test objectives. Prior to the static test, the solid rocket motor was cooled to 40 degrees Fahrenheit to verify the performance of new materials and assess motor performance at low temperatures during the full-duration test. Initial test data showed the motor performance met all expectations. The first-stage solid rocket motor is designed to generate up to 3.6-million pounds of thrust at launch and burns for just over two minutes. The test collected 764 channels of data to accomplish 53 test objectives. This is the most data ATK has ever collected in a static fire test. Information collected from this test, together with data from the first development motor test last year, will be evaluated to better understand the performance and reliability of the ...

On Sept. 10, 2009, NASA and industry engineers lit up the Utah sky with the initial full-scale, full-duration test firing of the first stage motor for the Ares I rocket. The Ares I is a crew launch vehicle in development for NASA's Constellation Program. ATK Space Systems conducted the successful stationary firing of the five-segment solid development motor 1, or DM-1. ATK Space Systems, a division of Alliant Techsystems of Brigham City, Utah, is the prime contractor for the Ares I first stage. Engineers will use the measurements gathered from the test to evaluate thrust, roll control, acoustics and motor vibrations. This data will provide valuable information as NASA develops the Ares I and Ares V vehicles. Another ground test is planned for summer 2010.

Launch Vehicle: Ares IX Launch Date: Oct. 28, 2009 Launch Time: 11:30 am EDT Launch Pad: 39B Launch Site: NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida › Status Report - Nov. 6, 2009 Ares IX Completes a Successful Flight Test NASA's Ares IX test rocket lifted off Oct. 28, 2009, at 11:30 am EDT from Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a two-minute powered flight. The flight test lasted about six minutes from its launch from the newly modified Launch Complex 39B until splashdown of the rocket's booster stage nearly 150 miles downrange. The 327-foot-tall Ares IX test vehicle produced 2.6 million pounds of thrust to accelerate the rocket to nearly 3 g's and Mach 4.76, just shy of hypersonic speed. It capped its easterly flight at a suborbital altitude of 150000 feet after the separation of its first stage, a four-segment solid rocket booster. Parachutes deployed for recovery of the booster and the solid rocket motor, which were recovered at sea and will be towed back to Florida by the booster recovery ship, Freedom Star, for later inspection. The simulated upper stage and Orion crew module, and the launch abort system will not be recovered. The flight test is expected to provide NASA with an enormous amount of data that will be used to improve the design and safety of the next generation of American spaceflight vehicles, which could again take humans beyond low Earth orbit

An aerial video crew observed the October 28, 2009 Ares IX test flight from a Cessna Skymaster aircraft positioned approx. 10 nautical miles away from the vehicle at an altitude of 12000 feet. The videographer used a gyro-stabilized high-definition camera system mounted to the outside of the aircraft to capture this spectacular footage which provides extremely valuable engineering data, and imagery of the recovery sequence in rarely-seen detail. Ares IX is the first flight test of the Constellation Program and provides NASA an early opportunity to gather critical data during vehicle ascent and during booster deceleration and recovery. www.spaceflightnews.net

This video was shot from the KSC PRess Site adjacent to the Launch Control Center. The launch of the Ares IX test rocket is the first flight of NASA's Constellation program, a prelude to the Ares I, which seeks to return humans to the Moon and then fly to Mars and beyond. The flight of the Ares rocket lifted off 38 years and 1 day after the very first Apollo Saturn rocket launched. For more Ares and Constellation news and multimedia, visit The Spacearium at http
