ARIZONA - IMMIGRATION: If the law is enforced, policemen will be instructed to arrest anyone who they reasonably suspect is an illegal immigrant and who cant show their papers. Opening the door to racial profiling ?
TravelingPoet.com - This is a tribute song to all the immigrants around the world. It's 2010 and we're still dealing with deep racial tensions. We are all one and need to see the humanity in each other past these invisible borders. Until we do that, what is the answer? Immigration reform! The new law attacks citizens of this country instead of the root of the problem. It is a law that promotes racial profiling. Most of the crimes and injustices that police officers will commit against the people might not even get reported. (especially if someone is uneducated on their rights, or a language barrier exists.) We must reverse this bill and stand up for human rights!

Shakira Concern Over Arizona New Immigration Law
Shakira Joins Arizona immigration Boycott! PHOENIX — Colombian singer Shakira visited Phoenix on Thursday, meeting with the city's police chief and mayor over concerns that a sweeping new state law cracking down on illegal immigration will lead to racial profiling. The Grammy winner said she wanted to learn more about how the law will be implemented if it goes into effect this summer and to meet with Phoenix's Latino community. "I heard about it on the news and I thought, 'Wow,'" Shakira told The Associated Press after meeting with city officials. "It is unjust and it's inhuman, and it violates the civil and human rights of the Latino community ... It goes against all human dignity, against the principles of most Americans I know." The law, signed Friday by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, is viewed as the toughest on illegal immigration in the nation and has drawn criticism from President Barack Obama, who questioned its legality. The law makes it a state crime to be in the US illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they're illegal immigrants. "I'm not an expert on the Constitution but I know the Constitution exists for a reason," Shakira told reporters after meeting with city officials. "It exists to protect human beings, to protect the rights of people living in a nation with or without documents. We're talking about human beings here." Shakira also made a stop at the state Capitol in downtown Phoenix ...
On the day before Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona signed SB 1070 into law, Representative Raul Grijalva called for a boycott of his own state. He opposes the new immigration enforcement law. Rep. Grijalva is telling people like me not to spend my money in Arizona because this new law might lead to racial profiling. I read the law and listened to Gov. Brewers speech 6 times. Police officers may only question the immigration status of a person when they have reasonable suspicion and may not consider race, color, or national origin to believe that the person is in the US illegally.

More than likely this topic will be the deciding factor in his decision. So whether Im supporting Sheriff Joe Arpaio, or Governor Joe Arpaio, he has my full support! *PLEASE do not post any racist comments on either side of this important issue, I will block and remove you. The US state of Arizona is set to bring in tough new legislation against illegal immigrants. A bill likely to be signed into law in the coming weeks, would make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally, giving local police greater powers to stop and question people about their immigration status. Immigrants unable to produce documents showing they are allowed to be in the US could be arrested, jailed for up to six months and fined $2500 if the bill is passed, but opponents have vowed to try to block it through the courts. Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports. [April 15, 2010]
