I arrived early for a meeting with Prudential Rubloff's Eric Rojas and struck up a conversation with one of the workers at Smokin' Woody's Bar-B-Que, 4160 N Lincoln, next door to the condo Eric was going to show me. I also met Tony, the owner of Smokin' Woody's. Tony explained why he feels he has the best barbecue in Chicago and showed me around. This is a very lively, interesting stretch of Lincoln Avenue that's well worth a visit if you haven't been there.
Toledo police detectives arrested 18-year-old Bridget Oyerbides on Thursday, a fifth person in connection with a shooting early Monday involving a police officer in a cruiser. Three other teens and a 20-year-old are already in police or juvenile custody. Oyerbides was charged with tampering with evidence, detectives said. She could be arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court Friday. She wasn't in the car early Sunday with Martin Cheno, 20, and Jorge Rojas, 19, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old. The four are accused of firing about a dozen shots at Officer George Shaughnessy's cruiser when he tried to pull over a vehicle in South Toledo. Sgt. Tim Noble said Oyerbides is either the wife or the girlfriend of one of the suspects.
After two of the four suspects were arraigned Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court for allegedly shooting at a police officer early Monday, the fourth suspect turned himself into police. Martin Cheno, 20, and Jorge Rojas, 19, were arraigned on attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault charges. Their bonds were set at $1 million apiece. Cheno and Rojas, along with a 16- and 17-year-old, are accused of firing nearly a dozen shots at Officer G. Shaughnessy's cruiser in the city's south end. Cheno and Rojas will appear in court again on July 27. The 17-year-old was booked and remains inside the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center downtown. Officer Shaughnessy, who suffered a minor head injury, will be back on the job Tuesday, police said.
Two teenagers and a 20-year-old have been arrested and charged with attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault after the suspects fired at least a dozen shots at a Toledo police officer in a cruiser during an attempted traffic stop early Monday evening. Arrested were a 16-year-old, 19-year-old Jorge Rojas, and 20-year-old Martin Cheno. A fourth person, a 17-year-old, remains at-large and has also been charged with attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault. Officer G. Shaughnessy suffered only a minor head injury. The incident took place on Glenridge Drive and the Rock Spring Road area in the city's south end.
The Southport Corridor is one of the most popular areas in Chicago's Lake View, both as a destination for dining and nightlife and as a place to raise a family, due in large part to its proximity to several popular public schools including Blaine Elementary. In early July 2010, Joe Askins of YoChicago.com met Realtor Eric Rojas of Prudential Rubloff near the corner of Southport and Belmont avenues to look at a rather unassuming six-flat that represents the upper end of the Southport Corridor condo market -- 3214 N Southport Ave, where a top-floor unit recently sold for $900000.
Nino defeats Mayol Regains WBC 108lb belt after four years In a rematch of their controversial draw in February, Omar Nino (29-3-2, 11 KOs) dethroned WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol (26-5-2, 20 KOs) by unanimous decision on Saturday night outdoors at the Plaza De Toros Del Recinto Expositor in San Juan del Rio, Queretaro, Mexico. The bout was very close and plagued by headbutts, with Nino getting the worst of it, suffering bad cuts over both eyes. The bout was stopped several times for Nino to be examined by the ring doctor. Mayol jumped out to an early lead, but Nino was stronger down the stretch. Scores were 115-112, 117-109, 115-111. This is Nino's second reign as WBC 108lb champion, having relinquished the belt in 2006 after failing a post fight drug test in Las Vegas. Earlier, former WBC super flyweight champion Tomas "Gusano" Rojas (34-12-1, 24 KOs) punished punished Felipe Almanza (16-18-4, 7 KOs) for six rounds and got the win when Almanza didn't come out for round seven. In a special attraction, flyweight Alonso "Finito" Lopez (5-0, 3 KOs), the son of former world champion Ricardo Lopez, finished Jorge Ramirez (2-3) at 2:30 of round three. Super bantamweight Adrian "Chinito" Young (9-0, 9 KOs) scored a third round KO over Arturo Delgado (2-4, 1 KO). Flyweight Sergio Frias (3-1) KO'd Vicente Mejia (0-2) in round one

Bubbling Minds favorite! One of my favorite tracks from this legendary early 70s Peruvian project, which features a top lineup of musicians, such as Nilo Espinoza and Otto De Rojas. The track (an instrumental version of Aretha Franklin's Think) was included on their debut (and only) album released in 1970 (reportedly only 300 copies were pressed).

www.timesofearth.com Chile has dismissed allegations that members of its military had spied on neighbouring Peru as a diplomatic row between the two countries deepens. Carolina Toha, a Chilean presidential spokeswoman who denounced the espionage claims against two Chilean military officials, said on Saturday: "When there are accusations of this type, governments must exercise caution. "We want to be clear: Chile does not spy." The spat has already forced the cancellation of a meeting in Singapore on Sunday between Alan Garcia, the Peruvian president, and Michelle Bachelet, his Chilean counterpart. Justice officials in Lima, the Peruvian capital, said a Peruvian court had begun extradition proceedings against the two Chilean officers, as the government launched an official inquiry. 'Money laundering' The Chileans, identified as Daniel Marquez Torrealba and Victor Vergara Rojas, were allegedly working with an officer of the Peruvian air force, Victor Ariza Mendoza, whose detention was announced by officials on Thursday. News reports said that Ariza, who worked in 2002 in Peru's embassy in Santiago, the Chilean capital, has been charged with "revealing state secrets, money laundering and espionage" on behalf of Chile since September 2005. Prosecutors said Ariza, who reportedly confessed, would have earned $3000 a month for his involvement in passing on information. The authorities said they were also looking into the possible involvement of another Peruvian military officer ...

Wellington Phoenix v Central Coast Mariners 27 - Sept - 2009 www.a-league.com.au No goals in Wellington The Phoenix are becoming the masters of the draw, earning their fourth in as many weeks with a 0-0 stalemate against Central Coast at a blustery Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Sunday afternoon. In their 50th Hyundai A-League match the Phoenix were again guilty of poor finishing, although the Mariners fared little better at the other end. The only time the ball found the back of the net was in the 10th minute when Nicky Travis slotted it past Mark Paston but it was ruled out for offside. The ensuing 80 minutes produced several chances for both sides with Paul Ifill, who was passed fit after pulling up with a hamstring strain in last weekend's agonising 1-1 draw to the Fury, again industrious as were Travis and Dylan Macallister for the Mariners. Phoenix handed former Mariner Adrian Caceres his starting debut in place of Daniel who has returned to Brazil following the birth of baby daughter, Luisa, but he had little impact on the game and was eventually replaced by youngster Costa Barbarouses with just over half-an-hour to go. After the early disallowed goal the Mariners had another decent chance in the 17th minute when Travis won a free-kick after being brought down by Vince Lia. But the midfielder's effort from a dangerous position on the left outside the box was comfortably dealt with by Phoenix goalkeeper Paston. Chances were few and far between after that until ...

Made using PS3 eye webcam with IR blocking filter removed and a new filter that only allows 850nm IR light through. The projector is an Optoma EX525ST DLP Short Throw Projector and is mounted on a custom black acrylic stand made by my co-worker Casey at SparkFun. I'm also using the LLP method using two 850nm lasers and beam splitters to create a horizontal line just barely above the projection surface. The lasers are powered by some cables I made and are connected to SparkFun's USB Breadboard Power Supply. The surface is clear 1/4" acrylic with a large vellum sheet taped to the underside. The software used is Community Core Vision and Processing running Memo's MSAFluid TUIO test slightly modified to allow for smoother TUIO inputs. Obviously this is an early video and a lot of calibration is required. Also the video is choppy and the multi-touch is less responsive than normal since I was running both webcams off my laptop along with dual monitors. I'll record a better version soon once I have the rest of the case created.

Sangre Morena is a musical duo (Elsa and Josi) that performs music from Latin America and Spain. We bring the most beloved Spanish-language songs to life with beautiful, passionate singing and the fiery sounds of the Flamenco Guitar. Elsa Rojas Marquez and Josι Gimιnez met early in 2007. Having come from different backgrounds and varying musical experiences, they joined on the stage for the first time as the principal performers in a Flamenco show. The chemistry was immediate. Since they started to perform together their mutual interests took them beyond Flamenco and into other areas of Latin music. They now have a show that includes these styles as part of an elegant and romantic performance.

I danced to this great Puerto Rican singer's lovely music when he played at the Broadway Casino on NY's Broadway and West 146th Street in the early 1960's when I was a teenager. I was able to get into this nightclub, with family members, because I would put my long hair up in a bun atop my head, wear high heeled shoes and a beautiful evening dress and was able to pass for over 18. What great memories of those times!!
Yamirka Rojas-Agramonte from Cuba is carrying out research at the University of Mainz. The question that interests her: how did Cuba and the other Caribbean islands come into existence? And what role did tectonic plates play in the process? She says that research on this topic is in its early stages back in her homeland. She's hoping that in future her work will play an important role in recovering mineral resources from the ground.

THE FIRST TUNE IS: "Cogele el Golpe" (Grab the Beat) by Israel 'Cachao' Lopez... THE SECOND TUNE IS: 'Vitamina' by Noro Morales... THE THIRD TUNE IS: 'Mambo N úmero 8' by Damaso Perez Prado... Boogaloo (shing-a-ling, popcorn music) is a genre of Latin music and dance that was very popular in the United States in the late 1960s. Boogaloo originated in New York City among teenage Cubans and Puerto Ricans. The style was a fusion of popular African American R&B, rock and roll and soul with mambo and son montuno. Boogaloo entered the mainstream through the American Bandstand television program. The boogaloo dance was loose and interpretive in style. Early Boogaloo used a twelve-step sequence that was later sped up into a thirty-step sequence. The most common musical feature was a mid-tempo, looping melody that doubled as the anchoring rhythm, often played on piano or by the horn section. The presence of vocals, especially a catchy, anthematic chorus, was another distinguishing feature, especially in comparison to more instrumental dances like the mambo, guajira and guaracha. Nowadays, the footwork is similar to Pachanga, but tends to be fast and bouncy like jive and also usually counted over an eight beat pattern. In the 1950s and 60s, African Americans in the United States listened to a number of styles of music, including jump blues, R&B and doo wop. Puerto Ricans in New York City shared in these tastes, but also listened to genres like mambo or chachacha. There was much ...
