Arguing that Anna Hazare should not deride democratic institutions, NAC member Aruna Roy today (August 20) said the Gandhian was "ill-advised" as there was still scope for the civil society group to change the government's version of Lokpal Bill. Referring to the Hazare camp's assertion that sending the government Lokpal Bill to the Standing Committee as a waste of time, Roy said such committees are an important institution and one should use it as much as possible.
Just hours after the Anna camp set a new deadline for the government, other powerful voices within the civil society spoke out, criticising both the government and Team Anna's versions of the Lokpal bill. "The Standing Committee is an important institution... we cannot get rid of institutions," said Aruna Roy, a member of the National Advisory Council.
Aruna Roy said that a newspaper report had twisted her words on Anna Hazare.

When asked about Anna Hazare's method of getting Jan Lokpal Bill implemented, she said the Gandhian is ill advised and it is wrong to undermine democratic institutions.
