BBC Radio 1 Jingles has no followers yet. Be the first one to follow.
Radio 1 (now known as "1 FM") is one of the BBC's national networks heard throughout the UK, and is one of Europe's biggest music stations. It began in September 1967 with jingles from PAMS, and then used exclusively JAM jingles from 1976 - 1993. On October 1, 1992 they were still celebrating the networks's 25th anniversary, and we sat in on Mark Goodier's "Megahits" show. We also spent time in the studio with Jakki Brambles. At this time, the network's facilities were in Egton House, which was across the street from the BBC's legendary Broadcasting House headquarters in London. You'll hear cuts from several custom JAM packages.

Back in the 1980's Radio 1 had a morning DJ called Simon Bates, who, every morning in the week, would read out a letter from a listener, sometimes happy and sometimes sad, and after would play that listeners "our tune" associated with the story. For some of us, like myself, this was compelling radio, and as a lorry driver at the time, would often pull over to listen, and very often, after would have a tear in my eye! Enjoy the basic movie I created to share this lovely theme from that show with you.

Radio 1 jingles from the 80's and 90's. I know most of these are out there, but there might be some you haven't heard, and possibly with better audio. Most of these got accidentally taped when I set the tape deck to record The Chart Show at 5am, not 5pm, and found myself with a tape of jingle packages being played out. Plus a couple of others ones glued in there.

A day in the life of radio1 Opening clip. From the old school DJ's
This is rare footage shot on board Radio Caroline North anchored in Ramsey Bay, Isle of Man, in August 1964. The jingles I've added to the soundtrack are USA generic from 1963, issued to US radio stations on LP. The "swinging station" jingles were used by Radio Caroline North and most of the offshore stations of the sixties. This is followed by film of crowds of Caroline fans lining Ramsey harbour on 14 August 1967 to watch a moment of history, as the tender takes the incoming DJs, led by Don Allen, out to the ship. The tender then returns to Ramsey with the outgoing DJs (including Tony Prince and Dave Lee Travis, wearing black armbands), who were leaving the ship for the last time due to the impending government legislation. The Isle of Man Parliament, the Tynwald, was opposed to the Labour government imposing the Marine Offences Act on the Island in order to outlaw Radio Caroline North. However the legislation was forced upon the Island, against their wishes, by an Order In Council. In this news clip, Charles Kerruish, Speaker of the House of Keys and Chairman of the Executive Council on the IOM, makes his views known to reporters outside the Home Office in London on 17 August 1967, after talks with the Labour government break down. From 1 August 2008 through to the end of August 2009 there is an exhibition in Peel, Isle Of Man, celebrating Radio Caroline North - "Pirates Of The Irish Sea" - the first exhibition of its kind (see links below). A new book on Radio ...
An audio-only montage of clips from Nottingham's pioneering unlicensed broadcaster, Globe FM. As one of its four founders, I was involved from inception in October 1991, maintaining an often stormy relationship with the station until late 1993. I was only 17 when test transmissions commenced, so those two years felt like a lifetime. Globe FM changed frequencies numerous times, saw several complete turn-overs of personnel and was raided relentlessly, ultimately resulting in the station's demise and a suspended sentence for its, by then, sole manager and owner. However, the station nurtured its talent and gave birth to countless careers, with ex-Globe alumni now working for the BBC, the four major commercial radio groups and across all media; some remain plying their trade in night-clubs, internationally. The clips included here represent all I have left and are very poor quality, rescued from battered cassette tapes, and are presented randomly. The earliest audio is from late 1991; the latest recording is from my last show for the station in 1993. Globe FM never saw itself as a pirate and strived for quality. Some fifteen years on, I think it's fair to say, the clips you'll hear demonstrate that Globe FM was certainly "of its time". Coming up in Part One: Mark Wright Rozalla jingle (produced by Andy Burton) People's Bakery advert (voiced by Andy Millinship) Nottingham's Favourite Hits jingle (Manchester Mix) ACFF commercial (syndicated) 101 FM Music Radio For 90s jingle ...
