Take a look at the long list of politicians whose names figured in various sex scams and as a result paid a heavy price in their political career.
New Delhi, March 7: A businessman dealing in motorcycles was today found dead near his house in north Delhi, police said, adding personal rivalry seemed to be behind the crime. About his childhood, Mr. Narain said, "I grew up in a small town called Muradabad in western Uttar Pradesh. My father was an academician and my mother a social activist. She used to go to the villages to serve the rural poor. She never took advantage of that in terms of publicity or political processes, she just got herself busy with helping people in villages. I grew up with those values." About his interest in social work, Mr. Narain said, "When I was graduating I met Mr. Mukut Singh who had studied abroad and married an Australian lady. They had set up a Non-Governmental Organisation ("NGO"), I spent my summer with them and that was a turning point in my life. My whole attitude towards life changed after that. Whatever I did after that had public concern in my approach." When asked about his school and college life, he said, "I studied in Muradabad and then after a post-graduation in Economics, I came to the Jawahar Lal University ("the JNU"). JNU was a big exposure; it was like a melting pot of various cultures. In those days, in 1978, JNU was heavily influenced by Left ideology; I was not influenced by it." When asked what kept him away from politics, despite being in a University that was politically charged, Mr. Narain said, "When I was in the village I came across some hard-core activists who were not appreciative of the Gandhain philosophy. They told me that they had spent ten years to prepare ground in some areas of the country and the politicians changed all ...
Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi addressing a massive election rally today in Buxar, Bihar pointed out that the cause of underdevelopment of Bihar was the blatant indifference of last two governments towards development projects started by the erstwhile Congress government in Bihar 20 years ago. She said that this sacred land of brave freedom fighters was also the Karmabhumi of Babu Jagjivan Ram... who had laid the foundations of Durgavati Irrigation Project many years ago in the region. But due to petty politics and apathy of subsequent non-Congress governments towards developmental projects in irrigation and education, the farmers have remained impoverished and the state backward, she said.
Well, I have been on a discovery expedition of Patna for the past 2 and a half years, and it seems to be a never-ending one, in August, I discovered the memorial of Dr Rajendra Prasad adjacent to Bans Ghat. No one seems to know that it exists, the Bans Ghat, which is a cremation ground, seems to be more famous that the memorial to this great Biharvasi. The place seemed completely neglected, with not even a semblance of security presence. Though Gandhi, Nehru, Shastri, Indira and even Jagjivan Ram have reserved huge tracts of real estate for themselves, this man who rose from my Chhapra distrcit of Bihar to become the President of India and remained so for two terms, seems to have lost out in the rat race for a samadhi in Delhi. I had actually stopped to have a look at the Bans Ghat and before that the Sadaqat Ashram when I discovered the Samadhi.

The leader of the Dravidian movement Periyar EVRamaswamy was greatly fascinated by the communist ideals after his visit to the Soviet Union. It soon caught on in Tamil Nadu and people started naming their children after the great leaders of the Soviet Union. The most popular were Lenin and Stalin and the communism wave even led to children, being named after Moscow and Russia. Consequently, the leader of the DMK party Dr.Kalaignar bestowed the name Stalin to his son oblivious to the fact that this political connotation would also ultimately lead to a political career. Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi, once explained the rationale in naming his sons. He said that he named his eldest son as Muthu in fond memory of his father Muthuvelar, second son as Azhagiri in tribute to a stalwart of the Dravidian Movement Pattukottai Azhagirisamy third son as Stalin after the communist leader of Soviet Union Joseph Stalin who believed in the ideology of communism and whose name also translated as The Man of Steel and his last son as Tamilarasu to express his affinity for Tamil language. The name Stalin had not always been easy for him. While seeking admission in a reputed institution, Church Park convent in Anna Salai, Chennai, the authorities shuddered at the name of the revolutionary and insisted that the name of the boy be changed in order to be admitted in the school. Undeterred by this, his father Kalaignar simply stated that hell rather change the school than his sons name. Eventually ...
Here's another election story. A man in his 90's is running for elections this year--and let's hope for him that the 23rd time's a charm. 95-year-old Jaganlal, who has unsuccessfully run in elections 22 times, has decided to test his fate once again as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections to the Lok Sabha (India’s lower house of parliament) from the Kanpur Rural constituency in India's Uttar Pradesh. [Jaganlal of Fatehpur, Independent Candidate]: "Earlier, I have contested in 22 elections and I am 95-years-old. I am standing once again this year too.” He is from a poor family and all these years, he has been earning his livelihood ferrying people and items on his bicycle rickshaw. Jaganlal’s rival candidates have admitted his undying spirit. Sporting a white Gandhi cap and holding a walking stick, Jaganlal moves quite swiftly for his age, raising the slogan “Ekla Chalo.” It was the favorite term voiced by Subash Chandra Bose, the revolutionary freedom fighter of India and founder of the Indian National Army. [Jagjivan Ram, Voter from Fatehpur]: "Jaganlal is quite popular among us. We, the local residents of Fatehpur support him although other people from elsewhere may not support him much.” Unlike other candidates who spend millions of rupees in poll campaigns, Jaganlal relies mostly on his individual efforts.
