Jul 26, 2010 -- Beacon Power is surging ahead as it stated it would benefit directly from a New York state law that was enacted last week that exempts flywheel-based energy-storage facilites of 80 megawatts or less from New York Public Service Commission jurisdiction. Beacon's vice president of asset management Judith Judson said The law will reduce quote "unnecessary regulation on certain merchant-built energy storage facilities, thereby accelerating their deployment." Shares in the Wilmington, Massachusetts-based company opened at 35 cents, and have traded between 28 cents and one dollar over the past 12 months.

Jul 13, 2010 -- Beacon Power (BCON) said it was selected by the US Department of Energy (DOE) to negotiate a $2.25 million award in support of developing a next-generation flywheel energy storage system. The goal would be to store four times the energy at one-eighth the cost, versus Beacon's current Smart Energy 25 (Gen 4) flywheel system.

Codiac Regional RCMP respond to the Beacon Light Hotel this morning around 9:40am for a disturbance in room 34. One Officer arrived and there were a few men in the room and he waited for backup to arrive. Two additional RCMP Members arrived at the hotel a short time later and they entered the room , all the mens names were run by the Police . Not long after the guests were leaving the hotel on Mountain Road at the corner of Atkinson.
