a tribute to the late paul young
The second single from "Beggar on a Beach of Gold". Without doubt, it's one of the bands signature tunes, employing an emotive lyric and a hooking melody. It's a song which has become a staple for numerous "Best of acoustic Rock" compilations - and deservedly so. This heart warming opener typifies the humanity held in the Mechanics' finest songs. There is real soul in these lyrics and a majesty in the notes, which few bands can present with anywhere near the finesse the Mechanics can. The song's sentiment is matched perfectly by Paul Young's vocals, in fact I'd say he was in finer form here than at any other point in his career. From houseofmanyrooms.com

Great Song............from the album "Beggar On A Beach Of Gold" the year 1995
Paul Young w/Mike + The Mechanics: "Mea Culpa". Beggar on a Beach of Gold 1995
My Dad died about two years before my first child was born so he never got to see his grandchildren(my kids) which left me kind of sad. A few years after he died I was driving along when I heard this song. The verse came up about "not being there when my father died( and I wasnt able to make it home before my father died)and "I heard his echo in my babys newborn tear" . I had to pull the car over and I bawled like a baby for about 10 minutes. I had never been so moved by the lyrics of a song before. I loved this song from the first time I heard it but whenever I tried to sing it I couldnt make it through that verse without losing it. After about 5 years I was able to get through it but even now sometimes I get choked up., and my father went home almost 21 years ago. Can this song possibly be that old? My good friend 4846steven requested this so here it is. This for you buddy(Steven) but I also dedicate this to the best father in the world. Just so happens that today is my Dads birthday. He would have been 87. Happy Birthday Dad, I'll see you again someday. I hope you are finding all the best fishing spots. I miss and love you and Mom so much! See you later!

Brilliant song from the album "M6" by Mike & The Mechanics 1999. Enjoy... Lyrics: When I get over you I'll be who I want to be I'll sleep where I want to sleep And laugh at your memory When I get over you I'm not gonna need a friend I'm not gonna tell the truth I'll never do that again You'll never see me cry You're gonna see something new You're not gonna watch me die When I get over you When I get over this I won't make the same mistake I don't wanna hear your voice I don't wanna see your face I know it's all in the past And it's long overdue I know that I won't look back When I get over you Did somebody teach you how to lie And take what you're feeling from Your eyes It's a sad disguise Take it off and say goodbye You'll never see me cry You're gonna see something new You're not gonna watch me die When I get over you Did somebody teach you how to lie And take what you're feeling from Your eyes It's a sad disguise Take it off and say goodbye When I get over you I'll be who I want to be I'll sleep where I want to sleep And laugh at your memory When I get over you I'm not gonna need a friend I'm not gonna tell the truth I'll never do that again When I get over this I won't make the same mistake I don't wanna hear your voice I don't wanna see your face

I'm dedicating this review to the late, great Paul Young, one of the two lead singers for Mike & The Mechanics, who sadly died from a heart attack in 2000 at the age of 53. He was a brilliant singer, with a full, rich, powerful voice, and he was an amazing performer, too. Check out his lead vocals on "All I Need Is a Miracle", "Hanging By a Thread", "Take the Reins", "A Call to Arms", "Taken In" This is a tribute non profit video.

Mike and The Mechanics Over My Shouler Classico de 1995
"Mike & The Mechanics" are an English rock/pop band formed in 1985 as a side project of Mike Rutherford, a founding member of Genesis, that became a successful band in its own right. They are best known for their hit singles "Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)", "All I Need Is a Miracle", "Over My Shoulder", "The Living Years" and "Word of Mouth". The main line up for the band were Rutherford, vocalists Paul Carrack and the late Paul Young (formerly of chart band Sad Café), keyboardist Adrian Lee and drummer Peter Van Hooke. By their 1995 album Beggar on a Beach of Gold only Rutherford, Carrack and Young were permanent members of the line-up until Young's death in 2000. Written by Mike Rutherford and Christopher Neil the track "Stop Baby" is a superb ballad taken off the bands 1991 album "Word Of Mouth". For more info - www.eagle-rock.com Mike & The Mechanics was formed in 1985 by Mike Rutherford of Genesis as a separate project to run alongside his work with Phil Collins and Tony Banks. They released their eponymous debut album the same year featuring vocals from both Paul Carrack (ex of Ace) and Paul Young (ex of Sad Café) and had an immediate hit with Silent Running. This was followed a string of further hit singles and albums as gaps in the Genesis schedule permitted. In 2004 the band reunited for the first time since the sad death of Paul Young in 2000 and released a new studio album Rewired. With Paul Carrack now handling all the lead vocals they went out on the road across Europe, culminating in this outstanding performance at London's Shepherds Bush Empire. This track is from the live DVD "Live at Shepherds Bush, London", available now from Eagle Vision.
