Less about my condition, and MORE about what I learned throughout my recovery so far! POSITIVE COMMENTS ONLY. Anything else is NOT tolerated!!! Thank You for your respect of MY YouTube channel!
My first update video using my new Kodak Play Sport. Next time I will record in the day time, the lighting on this video isn't that great. Also, I need to remember where the camera lens is... haha, I guess the off center video is kinda artistic ;) No more eye twitches (that were very strong and frequent in last month's video.) Feeling good, like my old self, physically! YAY! Back to the weight room! LOL
Hey BP Friends! It's time for another update video! This is at week 61, or 1 year & 2 months into my recovery. My BP eye still twitches quite a bit and the synkinesis is still very noticeable to me, but most people (including my doctors) think that I am improving... some even go as far as to say I'm 100% recovered. Who am I to point out my residuals to non BP sufferers? ;) If they want to think I'm 100% recovered, I say LET THEM! It makes me feel good that my face isn't receiving the opposite reaction: "Oh, too bad you haven't recovered completely!" PS... If someone says that to you, you have my permission to punch them in the mouth and ask them "Now you know how I feel! Has the paralysis kicked in yet?" JERKS! Don't play that game! Here's to a healthy, happy future! Residuals and ALL! XOXO
In the presence of hemifacial paresis, whether or not the patient raise the brow on the affect side of the face is an important differential between a less serious and more serious clinical diagnosis. This video explains the mechanisms behind the findings.
Drum roll please.... I made it to my ONE YEAR BeLLSiVerSARY! Here is my awaited update video for week 52 from Costa Rica... CIMA hospital! ...as I wait for my sister to recover from her surgery!
Have felt some weird muscle spasms in my BP side lately. Also, mild pain resurfacing behind my ear where the Bell's Palsy all began! It's a little scary... but I just have to have faith that it's a sign of more recovery to come! :)
Those who live with the visible effects of trauma often put limits on themselves. After the restoration treatments, we have seen the return of self confidence; new relationships formed; new social interactions and a reduction of self imposed isolation. The use of fillers and botox come into their own in terms of excellence in this emotive area. As Practitioners, we share in the joy of the transformation. Our patients feel that they have been given their life back and the mirror can finally reflect who they are in terms of how they feel inside. www.facetoday.com.au

To purchase the Bell's Palsy Guide please go to http Tarsorrhaphy This is a procedure whereby a few millimetres of your eyelids are actually sewn together usually at the very corners of the eye. The reasons are to help with the moisture retention upon the cornea and sometimes for cosmetic reasons for those with very long term or permanent eyelid problems. Because usually only a few millimetres are sewn at each corner, your vision should not be affected. However, the more that is sewn, the more chance that your peripheral vision may be affected. Do not let these things worry you. You do not have to have any of these operational treatments, they are just there if it is decided at some point that they would be best for you. They are only really used to replace the manual care that we have discussed in the rest of this chapter, so if you, like me, are a tad squeamish of such things, just work hard with the other methods as your healing progresses and the automatic natural processes return. Clarkson, Ph.D., Victoria Hammersley, B.Sc., Sima Hayavi, Ph.D., Anne McAteer, M.Sc., Ken Stewart, MD, and Fergus Daly, Ph.D. ABSTRACT Background Corticosteroids and antiviral agents are widely used to treat the early stages of idiopathic facial paralysis (ie, Bell's palsy), but their effectiveness is uncertain. Methods We conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, factorial trial involving patients with Bell's palsy who were recruited within 72 hours after the onset of symptoms. Patients were randomly assigned to receive 10 days of treatment with prednisolone, acyclovir, both agents, or placebo. The primary outcome was recovery of facial function, as rated on the House--Brackmann scale. Secondary outcomes included quality of life, appearance, and pain. Results Final outcomes were assessed for 496 of 551 patients who underwent randomization. At 3 months, the proportions of patients who had recovered facial function were 83.0% in the prednisolone group as compared with 63.6% among patients who did not receive prednisolone and 71.2% in the acyclovir group as compared with 75.7% among ...
allbellspalsy.info is the main website and the Bell's Palsy Guide Book can be purchased from http Bell's Palsy Series Two - Protecting Your Eyes Of all the symptoms of Bell's Palsy, one of the only ones that you can and must do something about is taking care of your eyes. The most common eye problems are: An inability to completely close the eye on the side of the paralysis A constantly dry eye (We will look at daytime and nightime care) A constantly watery eye Lower eyelid extremely drooped allowing more of the eye surface to be exposed to dust, dirt and water. (discussed throughout) A particular sensitivity to light due to the fact that you cannot close one of your eyes completely. One of the most important things to do is to protect your eyes from dust and debris. Normally you are naturally protected by the automatic blinking process, which often removes the offending item too. You may not have this function at present. If you are concerned that you have something stuck in your eye try, WITH GREAT CARE AND AN ULTRA CLEAN FINGER, to remove the offending particle but, unless immediately successful, go and seek the help of an optician who will know exactly what to do and can also check your eye to ensure no damage has been done. The following can become apparent at the onset of Bell's Palsy or in the case of a dry or watery eye, during recovery. BLURRED VISION The 7th Cranial Nerve DOES NOT control eye focus, so if you experience blurred vision this could well be the ...
allbellspalsy.info GO TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR !!! NOW !!! I could presume that you have already seen your doctor for you to know you have Bell's Palsy. If that is so, well done. However, if you have not been, GO NOW. I cannot stress this enough. There are over 50 conditions that can cause facial paralysis and these all need to be discounted first before a diagnosis of Bell's Palsy is given. An experienced doctor who has seen Bell's Palsy before will not take long to diagnose you correctly, but there is absolutely no point in treating or even reading about Bell's Palsy if you actually have something else. What will happen when you see the doctor? The doctor will ask you some questions about how the facial paralysis came about, what happened first, when you noticed any of the Bell's Palsy symptoms and how long it has taken to get to its present state. I'm sure that the next advice will only need to be heard by a few but "TELL THE TRUTH". It is a common reaction to something this scary and stressful to give only half of the truth for fear of the diagnosis. If you tell the whole truth, then you can trust the professional doctor to diagnose you correctly, advise the proper treatments and thus you can start the correct healing process. If the doctor does diagnose you with a Bell's Palsy then there are most likely two treatments they will prescribe to you; an antiviral course of treatment and a steroid course of treatment. They will explain to you why these two treatments are the ...

I woke up with Bell's Palsy yesterday, October 1, 2010. I had been having a headache, ear ache, fatique, then numbness in my tongue followed quickly by the loss of taste sensation. We do not know the cause yet. It could be Lyme disease, which I had blood drawn and it was sent off to a lab in Boston. It may also be a latent viral infection most likely from the chicken pox virus. The problem is that I have facial paralysis on the right side of my face. I am taking Amoxicillin, Prednisone, Valacyclovir, and an eye lubricant at night. The most irritating thing, right now, is that I can't blink my right eye.
Hi, this is just a video tracking my improvements with Bell's Palsy over the past month. I woke up on August 17 with facial paralysis. I was tested for Lyme's Disease and all that jazz and everything came back negative so no one really knows how I got it.
Facial Surgery for Bells Palsy. The role of surgery as a therapy for Bell's palsy is controversial. If patients do not completely recover, surgical treatment may be indicated. These complex procedures are performed on the facial nerves and muscles in order to reduce distortion of facial features and help restore function (eg, eye closure). The three main procedures are (1) facial nerve repair and nerve graft, (2) nerve substitution, and (3) muscle transposition. These procedures are not able to completely restore normal function, but they can significantly improve facial function and appearance. (1). Facial nerve repair is the most effective procedure to restore facial function in patients who have suffered nerve damage from an accident or during surgery. It involves microscopic repair of a nerve that has been cut. A nerve graft replaces one that has been removed. (2). Nerve substitution is indicated when the nerve cannot be repaired in the conventional manner. In this procedure, another cranial nerve involved in facial movement is connected to the damaged nerve and takes over its function. (3). Muscle transposition is used in patients who have had facial paralysis for at least 2 years and are unlikely candidates for nerve repair or substitution. This procedure involves the transfer of a muscle with its original nerve supply (a neuromuscular unit) to the affected area. The temporalis muscle or masseter muscle (two muscles in the face that are not controlled by the facial ...
What Are the Treatments for Bell's Palsy? - By China Zmuida, When you first suffer from Bell's palsy, you may think that you're having a stroke. Initial symptoms begin with your face feeling stiff. Half of your face will droop, and you will be unable to close your eye on the affected side. Tears will drip from your eye. If paralysis and weakness are only present in your face, then you are more than likely suffering from Bell's palsy. According to the Mayo Clinic, more than 40000 Americans develop Bell's palsy every year. In most cases, symptoms of Bell's palsy will resolve within a few months. Some people, however, will need treatment to combat symptoms. Medications (1) .If swelling is severe along with your other symptoms, your physician may prescribe corticosteroids to reduce swelling of your facial nerves. If your symptoms are caused by a virus, then your doctor may prescribe antiviral medications such as acyclovir and valacyclovir. If Bell's palsy is treated early, you may be given a combination of corticosteroids and antiviral medications. According to the Mayo Clinic, corticosteroids seem to be more effective. Physical Therapy (2.) Bell's palsy can lead to paralysis of your facial muscles. Over a prolonged period, your facial muscles can shrink and shorten. It is important to have these muscles massaged. Working with a physical therapist on exercising your facial muscles can help prevent permanent muscle damage. Moist heat applied to muscles that ache can also help ...
