Bihar, June 16 (ANI): Bihar Police arrested two Maoists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from their hideout, officials said on Tuesday. After receiving specific information about a Maoist training camp in Mohanpur in Gaya district, a special team of the security forces was sent there. After a fierce gunfight that continued for two hours, security forces overpowered the rebels and destroyed three of their camps.

Acting on a tip off, a team of local police personnel raided Alpa village under Khonch police station in the district and apprehended the Maoist's zonal commander Rajendra Paswan alias Parasji. In Orissa, around 90 ultras, including 15 women, triggered a powerful explosion at the Roxy railway station, about 80 km from Rourkela, causing extensive damage to the building, the police said. An assistant station manager, a porter and a guard were held captive by the Maoists for over three hours before being released with a warning not to run trains during a shutdown, the sources said. The Naxals also torched over eight dumpers and heavy vehicles at the railway station on the Rourkela-Barsuna railway route used for transport of iron ore and minerals to the Rourkela Steel Plant and other units, Inspector-in-charge BC Sahoo said.

Nishant Tiwari, a police official in northeastern India, said a journalist who filmed the beating called him Thursday to report the incident, which took place in the village of Dumaria in central eastern Bihar state. He arrived to find the woman tied to a tree, her hair partially cut and her complexion ruddy from being slapped. She had no serious injuries. "I was appalled at what I saw because people should be more socially responsible than to do this," Tiwari said. Authorities arrested six people, including the man who admitted to hiring her services as a witch. They were due to appear before a magistrate on Friday. Ram Ayodhya, who could face up to seven years in prison for his role in the attack, told police he was justified in beating the woman, Tiwari said.
