This is one of four songs I recorded with Anne and Humphrey Dye who run a lovely Bed and Breakfast called FiveOaks in Topsail, near St John's in Newfoundland. The song, which shows that a good friend can be your worst enemy, is generally attributed to Jack Dodd of Torbay. Bill Brennan of Stock Cove learned the song in a lumber camp and sang it for Kenneth Peacock in 1951. He passed it on to Gerald S. Doyle who included it in his 1955 songbook. It has been recorded by various artists, including Ed McCurdy, Ryan's Fancy and Great Big Sea. Harbour Le Cou is in Southwest Newfoundland, near Port Aux Basques. I had never heard this song before and asked Anne to sing a bit of it. She sang it to the well-known tune, "Villikins and His Dinah", best known in America as "Sweet Betsy From Pike." That was not the tune printed in the book, but it made it easy for us to sing it straight off. Hedy West & Bill Clifton - Getting Folk Out Of The Country In the '70s I booked various American artists to play the German folk clubs. Now, on the occasion of Bear Family's 35th anniversary, I'm getting sentimental and would like to look back on that era. Among others, the artists included Bill Clifton, Hedy West, Bonnie Dobson, The Strange Creek Singers, Tracy & Eloise Schwarz, Bill Monroe, and Ed McCurdy. Over the years Bear Family has released several productions by Hedy, Bill, Tracy & Eloise Schwarz. Hedy produced an album by Ed McCurdy for Bear Family, which included his composition Last Night I Had The Strangest Deam, sung by himself for the first time. For years, this anti-war-song had been covered by many other artists, including Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash it was even sung in 1989 at the fall of the Berlin Wall. Ed, who was watching the scene on TV in Canada, rang me and was totally enthusiastic. Apart from Bill Monroe's German concerts (4-CD / 1-DVD Box-Set), we have published his complete studio recordings on a series of CD box-sets. Among these was a fascinating great moment in country music as expressed by Walter Fuchs: "This memorable meeting of two legends HedyWest and Bill Clifton is now revived again: HedyWest, who died in 2005, and Bill Clifton, who was inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in Nashville, had met in a London studio in 1972 to produce an album together. These are highlights from a 3-2 overtime match in 1978 between the Sting and the Fury. These are Betamax rips that Dave Brett Wasser (www,davebrett.com) did from 30-year-old tapes. So they are not great quality. There are actually black spots in this tape. I miss at least one of the Fury goals. And I don't know who won because all of overtime is blacked out. What I do know is this • Alan Ball was coach. • Tony Glavin didn't play because of a foot injury. • Colin McCurdy, the team's leading scorer, had just been sold to a Belgian team. •Pat Fidelia, if he played at all, was only in the overtime. But as you can see from the beginning shot, he was available to play. • Keith MacRae (who had a spectacular game) was actually relieved in goal by Jim Miller. • It was played on the wet artificial turf of Chicago's Soldier Field. Ugh. • As bad as the field was, the TV coverage (at least the shooting of the game) was even worse with the players looking like little ants. I think WPHL only used two cameras. • Karl Heinz Granitza scored two goals to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. •Philadelphia scored its two goals late to tie the game, the first by Rich Reice (which you'll see) the other by Martin Henderson. • I didn't insert the Hersey Park, Gulf and Trident commercials - though I was tempted to. • As far as I can tell, we have never seen a Fury goal on the Internet -- until now. After Carl finished his incisive Closer Look interview, it was all down hill for Bo. He'd end up as a New Jersey Turnpike Commissioner, overseeing toll collectors and pothole patrols. Der britische Premierminister John Hatcher (Alexander Siddig) beauftragt seinen skrupellosen Sonderberater Michael Canaris (David O'Hara), eine Eliteeinheit nach Glasgow auszusenden, um dort nach einem Heilmittel für das Virus zu suchen. Das Militär hat jüngst Anzeichen von menschlichem Leben in der ehemaligen schottischen Metropole lokalisiert. Hier soll ein Team um Major Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) den renommierten Virusexperten Kane (Malcolm McDowell) ausfindig machen. Doch die Begrüßung der Regierungstruppe im konterminierten Schottland fällt weniger freundlich denn barbarisch aus.
