I saw this on AOL when reading the article about Sanford's wife moving out of the South Carolina Governor's Mansion (and the Sanfords' obviously-impending divorce). I had to get my sister to see the headline, and we read the article together. Now she understands what I was trying to tell her about what the article said.

Cocaine killed TV pitchman Billy Mays, autopsy finds. Hyperactive pitchman Billy Mays used cocaine days before his heart attack - and it killed him, officials said Friday. Mays, 50, suffered from heart disease but his drug use contributed to his June 28 death, the Hillsborough County medical examiner said. Read more: www.nydailynews.com
The medical examiner "concluded that cocaine use caused or contributed to the development of his heart disease, and thereby contributed to his death," the office said in a press release. The office said Mays last used cocaine in the few days before his death but was not under the influence of the drug when he died. Hillsborough County spokeswoman Lori Hudson said nothing in the toxicology report indicated the frequency of Mays' cocaine use. "We were totally unaware of any non-prescription drug usage and are actively considering an independent evaluation of the autopsy results," Mays' family said in a statement. I'm just shocked," Khubani said. "He was the model of a responsible citizen."

Billy Mays, well known for pitching a variety of products in US television commercials, had heart disease but did not appear to have suffered head trauma in a rough airplane landing prior to dying in his sleep on Sunday, a medical examiner in Florida said on Monday. The bearded, black-haired Mays, 50, who gained fame as an enthusiastic TV "pitchman" advertising an array of commercial products, was found dead by his wife at their home in Tampa, Florida. On Saturday, Mays was among the passengers aboard a US Airways flight from Philadelphia that landed roughly at Tampa International Airport after apparently blowing a tire. Mays told local TV shortly afterward that objects had dropped from the ceiling of the plane upon impact and he had received a blow on the head, although he said at the time he felt fine. In a preliminary statement on Monday after an initial autopsy, Hillsborough County medical examiner Vernard Adams said his examination found that Mays had "hypertensive heart disease," which refers to heart disease caused by high blood pressure, but "there was no evidence of any head trauma." Adams said this heart ailment "was certainly capable of causing the sudden death." He said Mays had died in his sleep. "It's not unusual for persons with heart disease to die this young," Adams said, adding that a formal report on the cause of death would be issued only after the results of toxicology tests were considered. Toxicology tests can show the presence of drugs in the body. Tampa police said no foul play was suspected. Executives from the television home-shopping industry praised Mays' role in promoting TV salesmanship. "DRTV (the direct-response television industry) has grown to be a $300 billion business during the last 20 years, and Billy Mays played a key role in making this possible," Julie Coons, president and CEO of the Electronic Retailing Association, said in a statement.

From Wikipedia: "Mays was found unresponsive by his wife in his Tampa, Florida, home on the morning of June 28, 2009. He was then pronounced dead at 7:45 am, appearing to have died sometime overnight. The Associated Press reported that there were no indications that the house had been broken into, and that police did not suspect foul play. On June 29, after an initial autopsy on Mays' body, Dr. Vernard Adams, the Hillsborough County, Florida medical examiner, stated that Mays suffered from hypertensive heart disease and that a heart attack was the likely cause of his death. However, a final determination as to the cause of death would not be made until toxicology and tissue tests were complete." Billy Mays, you will be missed.
Even I didn't expect this. It turns out that it WASN'T from the rough landing of Mr. Mays airplane, but it was from an undiscovered case of heart disease. He never knew he had it. More updates to come from the official autopsy reports.
Television pitchman Billy Mays likely died of a heart attack in his sleep, but further tests are needed to be sure of the cause of death, a medical examiner said Monday.
I called it! If you haven't heard, Billy Mays autopsy results came in on August 8th, 2009 which showed that he died of a heart condition related to cocaine use.

Television pitchman Billy Mays likely died of a heart attack in his sleep, but further tests are needed to be sure of the cause of death, a medical examiner said Monday. Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Vernard Adams said Mays suffered from hypertensive heart disease, and the wall of the left ventricle of Mays' heart and the wall of one of his arteries were enlarged. The boisterous, bearded 50-year-old known for hawking oxiclean and other products on national commercials was found dead Sunday by his wife in their Tampa condominium. "The heart disease is perfectly consistent with sudden death," Adams said. An official cause of death will be issued after toxicology and other tests are completed in eight to 10 weeks. "While it provides some closure to learn that heart disease took Billy from us, it certainly doesn't ease the enormous void that his death has created in our lives," his wife, Deborah, said in a statement. "As you can imagine, we are all devastated." Adams said Mays was taking the prescription painkillers Tramadol and hydrocodone for hip pain, but there was no indication of drug abuse. Mays had planned to have hip-replacement surgery Monday. Mays told his wife he didn't feel well when he went to bed sometime after 10 pm Saturday. Earlier in the day, he said he was hit on the head when his flight from Philadelphia had a rough landing at Tampa International Airport. The airline said no passengers reported serious injuries. Adams said the autopsy showed no evidence of head trauma. In a 911 tape released Monday, a frantic woman tells emergency operators she found Mays cold and unresponsive. The woman isn't identified, but police have said Deborah Mays found her husband dead. When asked what had happened, the caller says she doesn't know. A second person got on the phone as the operator encourages them to get Mays on the floor to start CPR. "We can't get him up, ma'am," the woman says. "He's gone." Born William Mays in mckees Rocks, Pa., on July 20, 1958, Mays developed his style demonstrating knives, mops and other "As Seen on TV" gadgets on Atlantic City's boardwalk. For years he worked as a hired gun on the state fair and home show circuits, attracting crowds with his booming voice and genial manner. After meeting Orange Glo International founder Max Appel at a home show in Pittsburgh in the mid-1990s, Mays was recruited to demonstrate the environmentally friendly line of cleaning products on the St. Petersburg-based Home Shopping Network, now known as HSN. Commercials and informercials followed, anchored by the high-energy Mays using them while tossing out kitschy phrases like, "Long live your laundry!" HSN released a statement Monday morning, praising Mays as a "legend in the electronic retail history whose personality, entrepreneurial spirit and thoughtfulness for others have always been larger than life." His ubiquitousness and thumbs-up, in-your-face pitches won Mays plenty of fans for his commercials on a wide variety of products. People lined up at his personal appearances for autographed color glossies, and strangers stopped him in airports to chat about the products. "I enjoy what I do," Mays told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. "I think it shows." Mays liked to tell the story of giving bottles of oxiclean to the 300 guests at his wedding, and doing his ad spiel ("powered by the air we breathe!") on the dance floor at the reception. Visitors to his house typically got bottles of cleaner and housekeeping tips. Besides his wife, Mays is survived by a 3-year-old daughter and a stepson in his 20s, police said. Authorities have not said whether Mays' death was related to the incident. Discovery Channel spokeswoman Elizabeth Hillman released a statement Sunday extending sympathy to the Mays family. "Everyone that knows him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth," Hillman's statement said.
