Andersen would battle patellar tendonitis virtually the entire season, numerous sprained ankles, and most recently a couple of sprained and fractured fingers on his left hand. Despite the numerous physical hurdles the Bird faced, he refused to let them ground him. Andersen would follow up his successful, and much publicized comeback season doing more of what he does best; blocking shots, finishing plays and bringing an unmatched energy off the bench. The Rooster would finish the 2009-2010 season with averages of 5.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG & 1.9 BPG in 22.3 MPG in 76 games, while helping the Nuggets to a very successful regular season record of 53-29. Andersen finished the season ranked 7th in the NBA in total blocks with 143, 6th in blocks per game with 1.88 , and finished 1st in blocks per 48 minutes with an average of 4.06

Following the 2007-08 NBA season, Chris Andersen was released from the Hornets to free agency. Andersen agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Nuggets on July 24, 2008[7]. Andersen finished the season second in the league in blocks per game at 2.42 per contest, despite a mere 20.5 minutes of playtime per game. His 5.68 blocks per 48 minutes played was the best in the NBA. In a sideline interview during the 2005 Dunk Contest, he uttered his now famous line, "It's time for the Birdman to fly."
