In September, Demonoid, one of the worlds most important and well-loved trackers, went down with overwhelming hardware problems. An update on the situation was not good, with the site owners forecasting severe data loss. Some user data and torrent files were predicted to be lost forever and the sites code had been seriously damaged. Then, on November 5th, Demonoids tracker began to function again, which was followed by another announcement by the site owners. None of the negative rumors and speculation were true Demonoid would soon return. On December 13th, the site is back up and running. We find it kind of odd, to say the least, that The Pirate Bay, the most notorious and belligerent BitTorrent tracker and site on the planet, was sold to a Swedish video game company for around $7 million dollars. Call us skeptical, but looking in the past with sites like Napster, piracy-to-legit transformations don't often work out the way the founders' hope, but you never know. We talk to Doug Aamoth from CrunchGear and JG Mason from Gadgetell.com about the situation. They're as perplexed as we were. Doug maintains the game maker is buying The Pirate Bay to simply gain a marketing foothold with the piracy-friendly 18-34 gaming set. JG thinks it might just be one big shell game, wherein the founders sell off the current company just to prep another on the side. Just a day after information on Windows 7 Build 7100 made it into the wild, the actual bits for the fully fledged Release Candidate of the next iteration of the Windows client have been leaked and are now available for download via torrent trackers.
