www.concordia.ca In this morning's Big Thinking event, Laurence Hill revealed how he integrated his research about the Black Loyalists into The Book of Negroes. This epic story imagines an eighteenth century African woman's migrations back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean; spanning Mali, South Carolina, Manhattan, Nova Scotia, Sierra Leone and London. Gerri Sinclair, Executive Director of the Masters of Digital Media graduate school program at Vancouver's Centre for Digital Media, discussed the intersections of business, academia and high technology this afternoon at this Big Thinking event. The Going Places: Memoryscapes Bus tour carried passengers through Montreal Sunday afternoon while original soundscapes played onboard. Produced by young adults who were impacted by a refugee experience, they shared their personal stories and offered unique perspectives in seeing Montreal. Congress Delegates followed roaming musicians through the Concordia campus as part of Nexus, a 'comprovisational' project where minstrels sport backpack speaker systems linked together by a wireless network. All travelers spilled onto the Cloud Deck in the MB Building for a live performance with the reunited musicians.

FROM WHEELCHAIR NOMAD DIARY...2003 CC We drove Highway 41 through Napanee, and then Highway 33 passing a large electrical generation station to the Quinte Loyalist, the Glenora Ferry which links to Lake on the Mountain. Loyalists, who fled the United States prior to the 1779 American Revolution to live under British rule, settled this country attracted by free land grants and their added numbers led to the creation of Upper Canada or Ontario. Crossing white-flecked waters of Adolphus Reach, in a stiff cool breeze, we reached Glenora, once a centre of grist milling. From the ferry terminal, we drove up a steep hill offering scenic views overlooking the reach and overlooking a small deep mountain lake, called Lake on the Mountain. We drove road 13 to Black River to buy fresh PEC curd cheese and to view an old house which Bill had painted. From there, we went on to the winery. We met Ed Neuser, the founder and owner, an outgoing talkative white bearded German entrepreneur who migrated to Canada in the 1950s

From a quiet, neglected corner of Nova Scotia in Canada, we have a meeting with the Black community that shows both the traditional attitudes of the older generation and the more alert, resolved stance of the young. The old still pin their hopes on the church and the preacher, while the young look more towards the Black United Front and its roving director. For both generations change is a challenge. The common hope is for a fuller life. Nova Scotia in black context: People of African descent have been living in Nova Scotia for almost 300 years. In Acadia, from the early to mid 1700s, there were more than 300 people of African descent in the French settlement at Louisbourg, Cape Breton. In Halifax in 1751 there were 15 Black people. Between 100 and 150 people of African descent were among the new settlers, now known as the Planters, who came from New England after the British gained control over Nova Scotia in 1763. Over 3000 Black people came as part of the Loyalist migration between 1783 and 1785. In 1796, 550 people, known as the Maroons, were deported from Jamaica to Nova Scotia. In 1800 they were relocated to Sierra Leone. Some 2000 escaped slaves came from the United States during the War of 1812, under conditions similar to those of the Black Loyalists. They had thrown in their lot with the British between 1812 and 1816 and were offered freedom and land in Nova Scotia. They moved into the Halifax area to settle at Preston, Hammonds Plains, Beechville, Porter's Lake ...

Reparations spark a debate in Canada, especially in Nova Scotia where some in the black community say it's time they were compensated for the generations of suffering slavery and racism: Africville was a black community within the city of Halifax, inhabited by approximately four hundred people, comprising eight families. The original Africville settlers were former residents of the refugee settlements at Preston and Hammond Plains who moved to Africville in order to escape the economic hardships encountered on rocky and barren land. The refuge settlements were made up of the many blacks that had come to Nova Soctia over several centuries. Local tradition of almost every interviewed resident of Africville believed that Africville had been founded by former slaves from the United States. In 1964, the city of Halifax began Africville's relocation. Although the relocation was said to be a humanitarian effort to alleviate the socio-economic depression in Africville, many claim the relocation plan had more to do with removing the eyesore Africville had come to be, rather than a genuine attempt to improve the lives of its residents. Reparations spark a debate in Canada, especially in Nova Scotia where some in the black community say it's time they were compensated for the generations of suffering slavery and racism: North Preston is a rural community in eastern Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, in Canada. The community borders its sister community East Preston. It is populated by almost 100% African Canadians. The community traces its origins to the immigration of former African American slaves and loyalists in the 18th century as well as black American refugees from the Chesapeake in the War of 1812. North Preston is also the oldest and largest indigenous Black community in Canada. In the environment of their predominantly white high school, a group of Black students face daily reminders of the presence of racism, ranging from abuse (racist graffiti on washroom walls), to exclusion (the seemingly "innocent" omission of Black history from texts). They work to establish a Cultural Awareness Youth Group, a vehicle for building pride and self-esteem through educational and cultural programs. With help from mentors, they discover the richness of their heritage and learn some of the ways they can begin to affect change. Shot on location in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada). tribute to the black templars, the greatest chapter in the imperium, check out my other videos if you like this one The Black Templars are a Second Founding chapter derived from the Imperial Fists and their primarch, Rogal Dorn. Since that time, the Black Templars have been on the greatest and longest crusade the Imperium has ever known to prove their loyalty to the Emperor. History During Horus' attack on the Emperor's Palace, Rogal Dorn chose Sigismund as the Emperor's Champion, and Sigismund was given the best armour and weapons. He went forward to challenge the traitorous leaders in single combat, and triumphed over all he met in battle. After the Horus Heresy, the breakdown of the Imperial Fists into Codex chapters was demanded by Roboute Guilliman. Dorn thought him a coward for not being there with the Ultramarines to help in the defence of Terra. Guilliman in his turn thought a rebel of Dorn for not adhering to the new Codex Astartes. Neither would give in. Leman Russ, primarch of the Space Wolves, and Vulkan, primarch of the Salamanders both agreed with Dorn, they also did not want their Legions split up and spread across the galaxy. Raven Guard primarch Corax and Jaghatai Khan of the White Scars supported the Ultramarines. Again a civil war was looming on the horizon. The Imperial Fists were persecuted for their so called heresies and even fired upon by the Imperial Navy. When it looked almost inevitable that civil war would be fought, Dorn finally relented and ...
