Jodhaa Akbar, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, which had a budget of Rs. 50 crores and made a gross of Rs. 95 crores at the box office. Kambakht Ishq, the Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor comedy flick which also starred Hollywood stars like Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards brought the budget to Rs. 60 crores and a worldwide release of 2000 prints. Aamir Khans Ghajini set the box office on fire with the action. The budget amounted to Rs. 65 crores and released with 1400 prints only in the domestic market and more than 200 prints overseas. Rajinikanths Shivaji had a budget of staggering Rs. 80 crores. Out of the 80 crores he charged Rs 20 crores and most of the budget was spent on costume. At the box office, it earned Rs. 350 crores. The most expensive film in Bollywood, you guessed it right, it is the underwater thriller Blue. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 80 crores starring Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and special appearance of Kylie Minogue.
Todays countdown is for the highest gross earner for the box office in the last five years. Hrithik Roshan occupies the fifth place. He is the youngest actor with four releases in the last five years and has grossed Rs 292 crores at the box office but there is his much awaited film Kites which has been sold for Rs. 150 crores. Salman Khan with 13 movies in the last five years has contributed Rs. 350 crores especially with his hit films like Partner, No Entry and Wanted occupies the fourth place. Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is third with a contribution of Rs. 365 crores. With the fewest number of films he manages to make every film a hit. His biggest success has been Ghajini being the highest grosser for a remake film. The second place goes to Shah Rukh Khan contributing Rs. 400 crores with his number of hits in the last five years. But whats making news is his up coming film My Name Is Khan which has been sold for Rs. 100 crores. The top spot goes to Akshay Kumar contributing Rs. 500 crores with 17 films to his name in the last five years.

A glut of new films are due out as the 2.3-billion-dollar Hindi-language movie business looks to recover from a multiplex cinema boycott, swine flu fears that forced some theatres to close, and a series of expensive flops. Trade analyst Komal Nahta predicted "good times" for the industry over the next three months. "About seven billion rupees (145 million dollars) is at stake for Bollywood in the last quarter, as there are nearly two dozen films releasing by December," he said. But others, like the director of Shemaroo Films, Hiren Gada, were sceptical about whether the new releases, some made for up to 900 million rupees, can recoup their outgoings. He told the Sunday Business Standard the stakes were "extremely high for both producers and distributors as it is the first festive season in several years where over half-a-dozen very big films are scheduled for release".
