In the second round the third-day match between Brazil and Italy would be a game to remember. Twice Italy went in the lead through Paolo Rossi's goals, and twice Brazil came back. At 2-2, Brazil would have gone through on goal difference, but on 74 minutes, a poor clearance from an Italy corner kick went back to the Brazil six-yard line where Rossi and Francesco Graziani were waiting. Both world-class strikers reflexively aimed at the same shot, Rossi connecting and sending Italy to the semifinals in one of the all-time great games of World Cup history. Sócrates scored in this game the first goal for brazil. Highlights of the 2nd half of Italy's first round game in the 1982 World Cup, played against Cameroon. The game ended 1-1, with goals scored by Graziani (61'), immediately followed by M'Bida (62'). Italy ended the first round with 3 draws and qualified on goal difference. In the second round they beat Argentina (2-1), then shocked Brazil (3-2) before going on to win the Cup. The game shows a very interesting display by Claudio Gentile, who being free from man-marking revealed some surprising offensive and creative-play qualities that most people ignore about him. This clip is worth watching and passing around to answer the unfair critics and 'violent player' tag, that follow the Juventus player till today. Italy: Zoff - Gentile, Cabrini, Oriali, Collovati, Scirea - B. Conti, Tardelli, P. Rossi, Antognoni, Graziani. Ct: Bearzot. Cameroon: N'Kono - Kaham, M'Bom, Aoudou, N'Djeya, Onana - M'Bida, Kunde, Milla, Abega, Tokoto. Ct: Vincent.

One of the greatest games of football of all time: Brazil v Italy from the 1982 World Cup in Barcelona, Spain. Starring some of the best Brazilian footballers of all time - Zico, Socrates and Junior. Great BBC commentary from John Motson - I love the crackly "telephone" commentary from the old days and the constant air horns. Part of the BBC Goal TV celebration.

WATCH IN HQ There is no doubt that the team Brasil sent to the 1982 World Cup is the most artful team in football history. The beauty of their play is perfectly mirrored by the elegance of the goals they scored. This video is an ode to Brasil 1982, ranking their eleven most beatiful goals -- all of which were scored in the course of only five games. the 1982 Brasil World Cup team: Valdir Perez; Leandro, Oscar, Luizinho, Junior; Toninho Cerezo, Falcao, Socrates, Zico; Eder, Serginho coach: Tele Santana Special thanks to: -the guys at fbtz.com, for prodiving me with all the videofootage -Julia, for tons of advice, feedback and useful tips. World Cup 1982 Italy vs Brazil - 1st goal by Paolo Rossi from a pass by Cabrini
The 15 goals you see are in chronological order: Brazil vs USSR 2x1 (Socrates, Eder) Brazil vs Scotland 4x1 (Zico, Oscar, Eder, Falcao) Brazil vs New Zealand 4x0 (2 Zico, Falcao, Serginho) Brazil vs Argentina 3x1 (Zico, Serginho, Junior) Brazil vs Italy 2x3 (Socrates, Falcao) Brazil 1982 is the strongest team which hasn't won a world cup, together with Hungary 1954 and Holland 1974. In that tournament they scored 15 goals in 5 matches, they played their "futbol bailado", they showed amazing players as Zico, Falcao, Cerezo, Junior, Eder and Socrates and maybe they had the greatest midfield in football history. Only Paolo Rossi in his personal best match ever (3 goals) could beat them and punish their defensive mistakes. Look at the passes, the shots, the geometries and the extreme quality of all goals. This is football!!! (music: "Let me entertain you" by Robbie Williams)

1:0 Paolo Rossi (56.) 2:0 Marco Tardelli (68.) 3:0 Alessandro Altobelli (80.) 3:1 Paul Breitner (82.) The 1982 World Cup Final was a football match contested between Italy and West Germany. It was played on 11 July 1982 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid. After a scoreless first half during which Antonio Cabrini fired a penalty wide of goal, Paolo Rossi scored first, heading home a bouncing Claudio Gentile cross from close range. Marco Tardelli then scored from the edge of the area before Alessandro Altobelli, at the end of a counterattack by winger Bruno Conti, made it 30. Italy's lead appeared secure, encouraging Italian president Sandro Pertini to wag his finger at the cameras in a playful 'not going to catch us now' gesture. Breitner scored for Germany in the 83rd minute but Italy held on to claim their first World Cup title in 48 years, and their third in total with a 31 victory. Coming after their 1934 and 1938 victories, Italy had now drawn level with record champions Brazil. Italy's Paolo Rossi won the Golden Boot as the tournament's top goalscorer, and the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player (awarded for the first time). Captain and goalkeeper Dino Zoff at forty also became the oldest player to win the World Cup. www.wikipedia.org
