(Part 1 of 16) NASCAR Winston Cup Series Inaugural Brickyard 400 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indianapolis, Indiana August 6, 1994 ***Without further delay, we now look back at what is arguably the biggest day NASCAR has seen in the modern era. There was always a question of "Could NASCAR race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway?" In 1992 it was tested, and in 1994 the fender warriors made their maiden run at the hallowed ground at 16th & Georgetown. Ladies and Gentlemen in it's entirety, THE INAUGURAL BRICKYARD 400!!!

(Part 1 of 18) NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 17th Brickyard 400 Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indianapolis, Indiana July 25, 2010 ***Since 1911 the world's greatest have challenged the famed real estate at 16th & Georgetown in Indianapolis, and since 1994 NASCAR has challenged the 2.5 mile arena. And now for the 17th time, the fendered warriors have come to challenge THE BRICKYARD!!!
The first lap of the race. Hell broke out in Turn 2. This has the green flag and the leaders going past at full speed. At the same time there was carnage in Turn 2. Kyle Busch spun and collected Sam Hornish, Elliott Sadler, Reed Sorenson, David Reutimann, and a couple of others. They all had to drive past, and I was recording at the time.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Juan Pablo Montoya once again had victory in reach Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Then questionable strategy cost him first the lead, then the race. "I am just shocked that I won the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in the same year," Jamie McMurray said. The benefactor of the gaffe was Jamie McMurray, Montoya's Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing teammate, who earned a spot in Nascar history with his surprise victory in the Brickyard 400. By capitalizing on Montoya's collapse, McMurray joined Jimmie Johnson (2006) and Dale Jarrett (1996) as the only Cup drivers to win the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in the same season. "I am just shocked that I won the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in the same year," said McMurray, who at this time last season was still looking for a job for 2010. He was hired to drive the No. 1 Chevrolet for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing just before the November season finale. "It's been an unbelievable year," he said.

After Juan Pablo Montoya dominates all day, a speeding on pit road penalty moves him to the middle of the pack.
By JENNA FRYER (AP) INDIANAPOLIS — Jimmie Johnson grabbed an improbable third victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when a speeding penalty to Juan Pablo Montoya blew Sunday's race wide open. Montoya led 116 laps and had a 5-second lead when he headed to pit road for a routine stop with 35 laps remaining. NASCAR flagged him for speeding on his way in, and the penalty knocked him out of contention. "I swear on my children and my wife that I was not speeding!" he shouted over his radio. "There is no way! Thank you NASCAR for screwing my day." Crew chief Brian Pattie begged his driver to calm down and focus on salvaging a solid points day, to no avail. "Don't tell me to relax, dude!" Montoya yelled. "We had this in the bag." Indeed he did, but the 2000 winner of the Indianapolis 500 was relegated to an 11th-place finish. Montoya, who had moved as high as sixth in the Sprint Cup standings as he ran out front, instead lost a spot and is now 10th in the race for the Chase for the championship. The performance was reminiscent of Montoya's win in the Indy 500, when he led 167 of 200 laps in his first race at the storied track. His team celebrated his return Sunday with a retro paint scheme that duplicated that winning car, and as he clicked off lap after lap, it was deja vu for the Colombian driver. "Actually reminded me of last time I led here to be honest," a calm Montoya said after the race. "I was cruise(ing). I was super fast." Too fast, actually. NASCAR said the electronic ...
