Saturday 17th April 2010 saw the first non stop run of by steam between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads since the steam days. 'The Bristolian' was hauled by Castle Class No 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe', running via Bath for the run from London to Bristol, and via Badminton for the return. Despite being on holiday in Minehead at the time, I was determined to see this tour, so I made the 2 hour commute from Minehead, via Taunton, to see it arriving at Temple Meads. In the video we see the train arriving into platform 9/10 at Bristol Temple Meads, around 10 minutes early. We then have a few shots of the engine, and of the red van behind the loco which was used as a water carrier for the tour, before the train is taken out of the station, with 47 580 'County of Essex' bringing up the rear.
After much hard work and planning, Tyseley based immaculate Ex GWR Castle 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe re-enacted the famous 1950's 'Bristolian' Non-Stop from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads and return. We see the train arrive 10 minutes early at Temple Meads, before it departs to Bristol St Phillip's Marsh for servicing The maroon vehicle behind the loco has been converted as a water carrier, which means that long runs can be made without a second tender. Finally being towed in by Tyseley owned 47480 County Of Essex, the train is seen departing Dead on Time from Platform 1. Not much action, but a detailed look at this superbly turned out locomotive...enjoy.
