thefilmarchived.blogspot.com A blooper is a short sequence of a film or video production, usually a deleted scene, containing a mistake made by a member of the cast or crew. These bloopers, or outtakes as they are also called, are often the subject of television shows or are occasionally revealed during the credit sequence at the end of comedy movies. (Jackie Chan and Burt Reynolds are both famous for including such reels with the closing credits of their movies.) Humorous mistakes made by athletes are often referred to as bloopers as well, particularly in baseball. Some films that there were bloopers in include A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Valiant, Cheaper By the Dozen, and Cheaper By the Dozen 2. Comedian Dick Emery showcased his own out-takes as an epilogue entitled A Comedy of Errors to his BBC shows in the mid 1970s. The later British show It'll be Alright on the Night, which has been running on ITV since 1977, and hosted by Denis Norden (replaced by Griff Rhys Jones in 2008) showed out-takes from film and TV. The BBC's answer to the show, Auntie's Bloomers, presented by Terry Wogan (and its spin-off sporting-mistakes show, Auntie's Sporting Bloomers, also presented by Wogan), ran until approximately 2001, and was replaced by Outtake TV, which began as a series of one-off specials in 2002, hosted by Paul O'Grady, before a series was commissioned and subsequently broadcast on BBC One in 2004, but this time hosted by Anne Robinson. In 1969 change was in the air. Man stepped on the moon and Britain launched a revolutionary new kind of university - one where the lectures were televised and the students could study at home. It was greeted with scepticism, both by politicians and academics, but went on to become a much loved, and often spoofed, British institution. The Open University took up residence in the old television studios at Alexandra Palace, which had previously been the home of BBC Television News. All OU programmes were produced at Alexandra Palace until 1981, when a purpose built studio complex was built at Walton Hall in Milton Keynes. Any reports made would now not be investigated or followed up as the hotline had been closed, a spokesman said. UFO experts expressed anger at the decision. MoD chiefs made the decision to close the £50000 a year department, established in 1950, after deciding there was no benefit investigating sightings which were an inappropriate use of defence resources. It comes after the team was moved from the MoDs team, similar to the FBI team featured in the TV programme the X Files, was moved a year ago from the Whitehall Headquarters to the RAF Command in High Wycombe, Bucks. Interview with Chris Thomas, independent filmmaker Mind Your Language is a British comedy television series, that premiered on ITV in late 1977. Produced by LWT and directed by Stuart Allen, it is set in a school for adult students in London, focusing on the English as a Foreign Language class taught by Mr. Jeremy Brown, portrayed by Barry Evans, who had to deal with a motley crew of foreigners. Three series were made by LWT between 1977-79, and the show was briefly revived in 1986 with some of the original cast.
The European Union is getting ready for a decision on who will become known as the first president of Europe. At a summit in Brussels, the EU's 27 member states are talking informally about who will take on this top role. Dutch Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende, Luxembourg PM Jean-Claude Juncker and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair are among a handful of prominent names being mentioned in Brussels. The European President must be a former prime minister and will be selected by hand by his (or her) peers from the EU member states. The Swedish presidency of the EU said it will act "swiftly" once the final obstacle to the EU's new structure will be lifted, when Czech President Vaclav Havel signs the Lisbon Treaty. From the Guardian: www.guardian.co.uk Tony Blair is "an excellent candidate" to become Europe's first president, Gordon Brown said today, ahead of an EU summit that is likely to be the first to broach the divisive subject. Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Brown stressed that his predecessor as prime minister had yet to formally declare himself a candidate, and the terms of the president's role had still to be defined by EU leaders. But he said: "We, the British government, believe that Tony Blair would be an excellent candidate and an excellent person to hold the job of president of the [European] council." The topic is not formally on the agenda of a meeting that will be dominated by wrangling over climate change funding and how to get the Czech ...

Wounded, 2 scenes - BBC, 2009. For the first time, the Ministry Of Defence has allowed television cameras to follow the recovery and rehabilitation of severely injured soldiers returning from Afghanistan. Lance Corporal Tom Neathway, one of the subjects of the BBC One documentary Wounded, talks to BBC Press Information's Tony Matthews. Tom Neathway was on a routine patrol in Kajaki, Helmand Province, when, as he puts it, his life took a different path. "We entered a compound to observe the Taliban," says Tom, a lance corporal in the Parachute Regiment. "We'd been into the compound before and had carried out all the correct procedures with the metal detectors to look for bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) we found no metal signature whatsoever. I was on sniper cover and went to a hole in the corner of the wall through which I could observe and fire. There was a sandbag in the way and when I moved it the device detonated." Tom likens the force of the explosion to a full-on rugby tackle. "It knocked me backwards and I realised straight away that my feet had been taken off," he says. "I still had my left arm, but it was badly damaged. "It must have been something new," he says, "the Taliban are as clever as hell and we knew the threat was there. Before that, they had used smaller anti-personnel mines and big IEDs with lots of metal content in, but they'd changed to material that the metal detectors won't pick up."
