Music: "Father Figure" performed by George Michael. Richard Avedon (May 15, 1923 -- October 1, 2004) was an American photographer. An obituary, published in The New York Times following Avedon's death said that, "his fashion and portrait photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty and culture for the last half-century." In 1946, Avedon had set up his own studio and began providing images for magazines including Vogue and Life. He soon became the chief photographer for Harper's Bazaar. Avedon did not conform to the standard technique of taking fashion photographs, where models stood emotionless and seemingly indifferent to the camera. Instead, Avedon showed models full of emotion, smiling, laughing, and, many times, in action. In 1966, Avedon left Harper's Bazaar to work as a staff photographer for Vogue magazine. We followed the river, passing some strange looking sculptures, on the way to the MCG. We also passed through Melbourne Park which will be hosting the Australian Tennis Open from this weekend. There were quite a few of the outer courts busy with people training - maybe the main stars aren't here yet though. We have enquired about tickets and there are some available for Monday - just depends if we can afford it. After a walk round the courts, we arrived at Melbourne Cricket Ground (The MCG, or just The 'G'). The place is huge. It holds over 70000 I think. We got to see where we will be sitting on Friday, right behind the bowlers arm! Should be able to put a few of the Aussie batsmen off by going topless! Yeah, not Lorna...just me!! That should warp their minds for years! We had to go to the Lexus Centre to pick up our tickets and this was where all the trophies were for Collingwood AFL Club. There was loads of memorabilia here for Collingwood, including their last Premiership trophy that they won in 1990. They still call this football, they will just never learn! At the height of her popularity just after "The Blue Lagoon", Brooke Shields starred in "Endless Love", an adaptation of Scott Spencer's best selling novel of the same name. Directed by Franco Zefferelli ("Romeo & Juliet"), the film was poised to be a huge success. Unfortunately it was only moderately successful and remains unreleased on DVD in the US. The story of a 17 year old man (Martin Hewitt) in love with a 15 year old (Brook Shields) is quite powerful and though many who loved the book did not like this film version, everyone else (sans critics) love it! The theme song from the film sung by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross was (and still is), one of the biggest hits ever produced.
