Eddie Floyd (born Eddie Lee Floyd, June 25, 1937, Montgomery, Alabama) is a soul/R&B singer and songwriter, best known for his work on the Stax record label in the 1960s and 1970s and the song "Knock on Wood". Floyd was born in Alabama, but grew up in Detroit, Michigan.[1] He founded The Falcons, which also featured Mack Rice.[1] They were forerunners to future Detroit vocal groups such as The Temptations and The Four Tops. Their most successful songs included "You're So Fine" and later, when Wilson Pickett was recruited into the group as the lead singer, "I Found a Love". Pickett then embarked on a solo career, and The Falcons disbanded.[1] Floyd signed on with the Memphis based Stax Records as a songwriter in 1965.[1] He wrote a hit song, "Comfort Me" recorded by Carla Thomas. He then teamed with Stax's guitarist Steve Cropper to write songs for Wilson Pickett, now signed to Atlantic Records. Atlantic distributed Stax and Jerry Wexler brought Pickett down from New York to work with Booker T. & the MGs. The Pickett sessions were successful, yielding several pop and R&B hits, including the Floyd co-written "Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won't Do)" and "634-5789 (Soulsville USA)".[1] In 1966, Floyd recorded a song intended for Otis Redding. Wexler convinced Stax president Jim Stewart to release Floyd's version. The Steve Cropper/Eddie Floyd "Knock On Wood" launched Floyd's solo career,[1] and has been cut by over a hundred different artists from David Bowie to Count Basie. It ...
Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Lyrics: In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines Sprung from cages out on highway 9, Chrome wheeled, fuel injected and steppin' out over the line Baby this town rips the bones from your back It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap We gotta get out while we're young 'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend I want to guard your dreams and visions Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims and strap your hands across my engines Together we could break this trap We'll run till we drop, baby we'll never go back Will you walk with me out on the wire 'Cause baby I'm just a scared and lonely rider But I gotta find out how it feels I want to know if love is wild girl I want to know if love is real Beyond the Palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors And the boys try to look so hard The amusement park rises bold and stark Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist I wanna die with you Wendy on the streets tonight In an everlasting kiss The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive Everybody's out on the run tonight but there's no place left to hide Together Wendy we'll live with the sadness I'll love you with all the madness in my soul Someday girl I don't know when we're gonna get to that place Where we really want to go and we'll walk in ...

...I know I haven't been around for a while... so how about this for a little treat by Bruce Springsteen... I'm driving in my car I turn on the radio... I'm pulling you close... You just say NO. You say you don't like it - But girl I know you're a liar 'Cause when we kiss - FIRE! Late at night I'm taking you home When I say I wanna stay You say you wanna be alone. You say you don't love me Girl, you can't hide your desire... And when we kiss - FIRE! You had a hold on me Right from the start There's a grip so tight I couldn't tear it apart. My nerves all jumping Acting like a fool... Your kisses they burn But your heart stays cool. Romeo and Juliet Samson and Delilah Baby you can bet their love They didn't deny. Your words say split - But your words they lie 'Cause when we kiss - FIRE! Burning in my soul It's out of control! "Long Black Veil" is a 1959 country ballad, written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell. A saga song, "Long Black Veil" is told from the point of view of an executed man falsely accused of murder. He refuses to provide an alibi, since on the night of the murder he was having an affair with his best friend's wife, and would rather die and take their secret to his grave than admit the truth. The chorus describes the woman's mourning visits to his gravesite, wearing a long black veil and enduring a howling wind. The writers later stated that they drew on three sources for their inspiration: Red Foley's recording of "God Walks These Hills With Me", a contemporary newspaper report about the unsolved murder of a priest, and the legend of a mysterious veiled woman who regularly visited Rudolph Valentino's grave. Dill himself called it an "instant folksong." Wilkin played piano on the original recording by Frizzell. The song was a departure from Frizzell's previous honky tonk style and was a deliberate move toward the current popularity of folk-styled material and the burgeoning Nashville sound. Recorded in Nashville in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell and produced by Don Law, the single reached No. 6 on Billboard Hot C&W Sides chart. In the process, the song became Frizzell's best-performing single in five years. "Long Black Veil" has become a standard and has been covered by a variety of artists in country, folk and rock styles. The biggest cover ...

LINK: tinyurl.com The Crystals were one of the most successful girl groups of the 1960s. Barbara Alston , Mary Thomas , Delores "Dee Dee" Kennibrew, Merna Girard and Patricia "Patsy" Wright formed the band in high school under the leadership of Alston's uncle, Benny Wells Soon, the group signed with Phil Spector's label Philles Records. Spector then chose Alston to be the group's lead singer, which made her very uncomfortable since she had a fear of singing in front of audiences. Their first hit was 1961's "There's No Other Like My Baby". The following singles, such as "Uptown" and "Oh, Yeah, Maybe, Baby" (this song features Wright on lead) were topical and socially-aware about growing up in the ghetto. After the success of "Uptown", a pregnant Girard was replaced by Dolores "LaLa" Brooks. The next single was 1962's "He Hit Me (It Felt Like a Kiss)", a dark and strange affair for the period, still widely remembered though only rarely played on the radio due to the touchy subject matter of spousal abuse. Sales were sluggish. Soon after, Phil Spector was recording a singer named Darlene Love under the name "the Crystals". Her single, "He's a Rebel", is perhaps the Crystals' most well remembered and beloved songs, and one of the most enduring of the girl group genre. After another Love song, "He's Sure ...
