Please visit us at oneillrealestate.ca or leave a comment. Yesterday, George O'Neill made a prediction of the election results for Ward 32 (Beaches - East York) in Toronto by simply following how popular our footage of the September all-candidates debates were. How did we fare? Not too badly, actually. We surmised Mary-Margaret McMahon would be the winner of this race by a significant margin, followed by incumbent Sandra Bussin, Keith Begley and Brad Feraday. Discounting the three candidates who left the race to endorse McMahon - Martin Gladstone, Neil Sinclair and Bruce Baker - the election results for the 2010 Toronto election for Ward 32 came out reasonably accurate to our YouTube predictions Ward 32 candidate Election Results % of YouTube Views Mary-Margaret McMahon 65% 68% (32% + Gladstone's 20%, Baker's 11% and Sinclair's 4% rounded) Sandra Bussin 26% 13% Keith Begley 3% 11% Brad Feraday 2% 9% This was Toronto's first municipal election in the age of social media tools - in our last election in 2006, Facebook was students-only and YouTube and Twitter were still in their infancy. We believe that, as computers become an increasingly integral part of the social fabric of our communities, social media will continue to have influence in our opinions. We thank all candidates for participating, and of course, a congratulations to our new councillor, Mary-Margaret McMahon.

June 15, 2010 Riverside County Board of Supervisors. (Jeff Stone absent) AnonOrange ======================= Text of AnonOrange's speech ======================= There's a new article on tampabay.com, the St. Petersburg Times, about forced abortions by Scientology. Most of those happened here in Riverside County at Gold Base. www.tampabay.com But what I really want to talk about here is to praise Mr. Stone. In Riverside county, where it mattered, as far this speech is concerned: Mr. Stone, you won the Senate Election, not just by a landslide, but by an avalanche. (Show election results) Jeff Stone 47.4% Ken Dickson 22.9% You won fair and square and I'm here to praise you. My words do not hold the slightest bit of sarcasm. You won, we lost. I and others have failed big time. It needs to be said: "We have failed". That's how we learn. Scientology is not yet being investigated and not a single American politician has spoken out. This internet is celebrating when instead we should be waking up from a hangover and realize how we have messed up. Some people worked really hard at this, but Mr. Stone, you have worked very hard at this, attending hundreds of gatherings to promote your campaign. I've only protested at two of your fundraisers, and nobody else did, to my knowledge. There were ample opportunities to oppose you, but we failed. Instead, we were busy gossiping some two million posts total on obscure message boards. Not one Ex-Scientologist from Riverside has spoken here ...
When I made a video earlier this year supporting the Supreme Court's holding in the Citizens United v Federal Election Commission case that "the Government may not suppress political speech on the basis of the speaker's corporate identity," I got a lot of negative reaction some of which went as far as to claim that protecting "corporate free speech" would lead to the end of democracy, but the failure of two corporate backed measures in California's June 2010 primaries despite the massive spending advantage those measures had for advertising is strong evidence those concerns about the recent Supreme Court decision were somewhat overblown as I show in this video. The news clip of consumer watchdog Harvey Rosenfield I use in this video comes from the May 17, 2010, KABC-TV news story available online at abclocal.go.com The images I use of my previous video titled "Is It Just Corporate Free Speech" come from the YouTube player page at www.youtube.com The image I use of the election results in California's June 8, 2010, primary comes from the California Secretary of State's webpage at vote.sos.ca.gov The image I use of Dan Morain's June 10, 2010, Sacramento Bee editorial titled "Voters get wise to sly corporate power plays" comes from the webpage at www.sacbee.com And, finally, the images I use of the text of Proposition 16, the so-called "Taxpayers Right to Vote Act," and Proposition 17, the so-called "Continuous Coverage Auto Insurance Discount Act," comes from the California ...

What does it take to amend the California State Constitution? Lara Manzanares places herself in the Constitution's shoes to find out what it's like to be repeatedly amended by the citizenry. Read her artist statement below: "The California State Constitution is in a state of crisis. According to Thad Kousser of the Bill Lane Center for the American West, Californians have overdone it, amending the state Constitution more than 500 times in the past 100 years via citizen initiatives and through measures put on the ballot by the legislature. By gathering a number of signatures that equals just 8% of the voter turnout in the most recent gubernatorial election, an initiative to amend the constitution is put on the ballot. On voting day, it needs a simple majority of 51% to be passed into law. While this system would ideally give more control to the citizens of the state, what has resulted is, according to Nick Goldberg of the LA Times, a bloated mishmash, [which is] eight times longer than the US Constitution and marred by obfuscation, clutter and dysfunction. While these descriptions may be true, the rhetoric used within them led me to wonder how I might experience this process firsthand, without the filter of political pundits. So, I dressed up as the Constitution, created a space for the initiative process to take place, and waited for my fellow citizens to amend me. An hour-long performance was not long enough to produce a true bloated mishmash, but it did create some ...

Olbermann is such a petulant losermann Obviously the DNC/White House give this idiot instructions In an epic upset in liberal Massachusetts, Republican Scott Brown rode a wave of voter anger to defeat Democrat Martha Coakley in a US Senate election Tuesday that left President Barack Obama's health care overhaul in doubt and marred the end of his first year in office. The loss by the once-favored Coakley for the seat that the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy held for nearly half a century signaled big political problems for the president's party this fall when House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates are on the ballot nationwide. More immediately, Brown will become the 41st Republican in the 100-member Senate, which could allow the GOP to block the president's health care legislation and the rest of Obama's agenda. Democrats needed Coakley to win for a 60th vote to thwart Republican filibusters. Democratic fingerpointing began more than a week ago as polls started showing a tight race, with the White House accusing Coakley of a poor campaign and the Coakley camp laying at some of the blame on the administration. Obama flew to Boston for last-ditch personal campaigning on Sunday. With 87 percent of precincts counted, Brown led Coakley, 52 percent to 47 percent. The election transformed reliably Democratic Massachusetts into a battleground state. One day shy of the first anniversary of Obama's swearing-in, it played out amid a backdrop of animosity and resentment from voters ...
One of the classic U2 live songs, Sunday Bloody Sunday, was during the 2009 legs of the 360° Tour dedicated to the struggle of the Iranian people to achieve democracy. It was inspired by the protests earlier in the summer of 2009 as a reaction to unsatisfying election results in the Presidental election. Reading about how The Edge was concerned about the "lack of enthusiasm"-reception of Breathe by their audience I definately think they will move it into another slot. And many fans every once in a while say they are tired or the warhorse Sunday Bloody Sunday. I would agree if it wasn't for the stellar post-tour performance at the MTV emas in Berlin with Jay-Z, that was an electrifying performance indeed. The band already let Pride (In The Name Of Love) rest for part of the most recent leg in North America so they might not be unfamiliar to the idea. But as I said, I'm not sure whether I would like it to go or stay for 2010 after that Berlin gig. What if Breathe would be placed after I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Redanka Kick The Darkness Vocal Mix) in the setlist for 2010? It sounds quite massive to my ears, I don't know what you guys reckon. In this slot, Breathe would probably get more appreciated after the audience has been warmed up, as it initiates the "political act" of U2's 360° Tour stage show coupled with the green lights and Teheran visuals on the screen. I think the green light-effect I faked turned out all right, although it sure looks grainy in a ...

'Illegal rally' held outside Iran Parliament Some 200 people have gathered outside Iran's Parliament (Majlis) building in central Tehran to protest at the result of the country's presidential election. Protesters, who had gathered in small groups at a nearby subway station in Baharestan Square, were dispersed by security forces. Another group of about fifty people also converged on another square to the north of the neighborhood. A heavy presence by the police prevented violence in the area. Traffic was light and the police controlled all the routes to and from the areas surrounding the parliament. Despite an official ban on any gatherings by the Iranian authorities, opposition rallies were held during the past week in protest at the presidential election results, which declared incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the winner with almost two-thirds of the votes. Earlier on Wednesday, Mir-Hossein Mousavi's website said the gathering was not called by the defeated presidential contender. Karroubi had earlier called on the public to attend a Thursday mourning ceremony for those killed in post-election violence in Tehran. However, the website of the National Confidence Party, headed by Karroubi, said on Wednesday that the ceremony would not take place, as organizers were unable to find a proper place for it. Both the Iranian police and the country's Revolutionary Guards Corps have said they would deal firmly with any 'illegal gatherings'. The streets of the capital Tehran have ...

(Sacramento) Californias Speaker of the State Assembly Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) says voters sent a clear message to state officials with their defeat of the budget related measures on the special election ballot. Speaker Bass says she believes the Governor and lawmakers must now act quickly to solve the states financial crisis on their own. Speaker Bass says the national recession, which has hit California exceptionally hard, will make it even more difficult to find the right solutions to the state financial situation. The Speaker says all options, including deep spending cuts, must be considered when deciding how to balance the states books. Heres more from Speaker Bass in this Assembly Access video.
