Take a tour of Corinth Canal in Greece -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. The canal is about four miles long and has walls that are merely 80 feet wide. The distinctive Corinth Canal is the realization of over 2000 years of vision. The Gulf of Corinth had long been separated from the Saronic Gulf by the Isthmus of Corinth. Before the construction of the canal, ships had to sail around the Peninsula. Many rulers, from Periander to Julius Caesar to Nero, proposed a canal, but never built it. Finally, in 1893 a Greek company completed the Corinth Canal, allowing the boat traffic through.

Starr was born Charles Edwin Hatcher in Nashville, Tennessee in 1942. He and his cousins (soul singers Roger and Willie Hatcher) moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they were raised. In 1957, Starr formed a doo-wop group, The Future Tones, and began his singing career. Starr lived in Detroit, Michigan in the 1960s and recorded at first for the small record label Ric-Tic, and later for Motown Records after it absorbed Ric-Tic in 1968. The song which began his career was "Agent Double'O'Soul" (1965), a reference to the James Bond films, which were popular at the time. Other early hits included "Headline News", "Back Street", a cover of The Miracles "Way Over There", and "SOS (Stop Her On Sight)". He recorded more soul music for the next three years before having an international hit in "25 Miles" (1968), which peaked at #6 in the United States the following year. The biggest hit of his career, which cemented his reputation, was the anti-Vietnam War protest song "War" (1969). Starr's intense vocals transformed a Temptations album track into a #1 chart success, which spent three weeks in that top position on the US Billboard charts, an anthem for the antiwar movement and a cultural milestone that continues to resound a generation later in movie soundtracks and hip hop music samples. It sold over three million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.[1] "War" appeared on both Starr's War and Peace album and its follow-up, Involved. Involved also featured another song of similar ...
The Iron Age Fort at Cissbury was a tribal headquarters and refuge in times of danger. An amazing estimate of some 60000 tons of chalk were excavated from the ditch area to build the fine ramparts we see today. Even they are a shadow of the former great earthwork which may have employed 200 men and taken two years to complete. It was awesome and spectacular, surmounted by an impressive enclosing mile-long defence wall of massive hewn timbers. There were originally between 8000 - 12000 of these massive lumber supports surrounding Cissbury, each about 15 feet high. A construction of no mean feat in those days. By 50 BC the Cissbury Camp appears to have gone out of use as a fortress and was abandoned to the wind and rain. It took the Romans to see the potential of the downland and they began to cultivate considerable areas of land within the ramparts. It was possibly administered and occupied as a military station and a unit of some long forgotten legion was probably quartered on the sitelooking out to sea. The Romano-British presence eventually diminished on Cissbury and the landscape reverted back to a deserted open space. Around AD 1005-1020 the Saxon Royal Mint at Steyning was transferred to Cissbury (possibly through the threat of invasion). The coins were then minted within the embankments of the old disused fort. The exact spot of this mint has never been located, although over thirty 'Cissbury' minted coins are in existence. Nearer to our own time, during Elizabethan ...

Egypt is a land of monumental temples, gigantic pyramids, the River Nile and the mysterious Sphinx, it embodies 5000 years of history. The city of Alexandria, founded by Alexander The Great in 331 BC, is located in the Nile Delta, and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra's spell. Cairo is Africa's largest city and the heart of the Arab world. Extreme poverty lives next to opulent wealth and modern, western boutiques next to ancient souks. The Cairo Museum is home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the Golden Mask and tomb of Tutankhamen. Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive 3 pyramids of Giza. The Cheops Pyramid, the world's largest single construction, took 400000 workers 20 years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53000 square meters - the height of a 50 story skyscraper. In the middle of today's modern city of Luxor, known as the 'Capital City Of The Pharaohs,' the Luxor Temple stretches along the eastern banks of the Nile. Not far away lies the temple complex of Karnak and the Amun Temple. Sixty-seven kilometers from Luxor, on the western bank of the Nile, lies the Temple of Dendera, the most important place of worship for the love goddess, HATHOR, whose heavenly appearance was portrayed by the body of a cow. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ...
For almost 2000 years an imposing Roman amphitheatre has dominated the French city of Nîmes. Prior to the Romans, the Celts established a settlement in Nîmes. During the rule of Julius Caesar and Emperor Augustus, the city grew in importance. The Arena was once the setting for gladiatorial battles but today it is matadors who fascinate their audiences during the Whitsuntide Féria. The amphitheatre was built around 70 AD Nîmes, or "Nemausus" as the Romans named their colony, developed into an important centre. In the 2nd century AD, emperors Hadrian and Antonius Pius ordered the construction of two further splendid buildings, thus the town was enriched by fine architecture. In contrast to the famous Roman Arena at Arles, the Nîmes replica of the Colosseum still contains some well-preserved sections of the highest floor, the Attika. Today, the beautiful view from the most highly elevated seats of the Amphitheatre extends across the rooftops of the picturesque old town of Nîmes and its 2000 years of glorious history.
In the first century BC, when Julius Caesar and his Legionnaires defeated the Celts in Gaul, the conquered land became Roman Provincia. Now known as Provence in the south of France, a Roman influence is still evident today. The ancient Roman amphitheatres, with grandiose Roman spectacles, now see their modern counterpart, the bull festivals of Provence.A fascination for bulls is clearly existent in Arles and Ns, whilst the great Roman aqueducts, the Roman roads and bridges, all recall intriguing stories of the grandeur that was Rome. The production of Roman wine is still carried on in Provence today. We investigate the similarities and differences between Caesars Legionnaires in Provence who were foreign born in a foreign land and of that corps d'te, the French Foreign Legion.Members of the Foreign Legion still receive their training in Provence.Southern Gaul becomes Roman Amphitheatres in Arles and Ns Bull worship and bullfighting, fighting bulls on horseback Ns, its water gods and construction of the aqueduct, the Pont du Gard Roman roads, milestones and the RhRivers boat-bridge crossing Arles Golden Age;its hydraulic flour mill, Roman Baths and Les Alyscamps cemetery Vaison-la-Romaine and its ancient past The French Foreign Legions connection with Caesars Roman Legionnaires Wine production began with the Greeks;Roman wine is produced today

Well, Youtube got rid of the audio in the opening I just did, and I'm not a very happy guy. But it's alright-- I decided to put it to "Ring a Bell" (the English version of the Opening Theme for Tales of Vesperia) since I couldn't get anything better... I'm kind of depressed I can't share the awesomeness of the video with the actual opening, but oh well. Anyway, this is the Opening Scene for Tales of Graces, the new Tales game destined for the Wii and a Japanese release on December 10th, 2009. The main character is Asbel Lhant and... you can google this stuff. :P It was leaked, I downloaded, uploaded it, but youtube muted the audio, so I am uploading again with different audio. xP. Enjoy to the best of your capability, comment, and subscribe if you are looking for more Tales videos! www.talesofgraces.net (Site Under Construction)

STRANGE city construction! After viewing other peoples cities in Caesar 3 & noticing that they constructed their cities in square blocks rather than housing (A thought which had occured, but hadn't felt right to me when I had tried it) I commented on a youtube video concerning my strange construction technique & was advised to upload a video showcasing my bizzarre (I HATE spelling that word) technique, so here it is. All (positive) comments are welcome, thank you.
Just a quick intro about myself and the six races I'll be painting for my own miniature board game. The Caesar Miniatures were $10 per box with a $6 shipping rate, in total with paints and supplies I'm sitting at around $90 total. In essence, I was looking to see if I would enjoy a Warhammer Fantasy type game but unfortunately the nearest Hobby store is 45 mins from my house (not conducive for my style). I am currently in college and maintain a job so I work as I can (hence why this is two months in the making). I'll have more videos up showing actual construction and painted figures posted soon. Thanks for looking!
In the first century BC, Saepinum became one of the 35 Roman municipalities in Italy. Economic development started with the completion of the city wall under Caesar Augustus and with his decision to carry out a program of centurionization (the granting of parcels of land throughout Italy to veterans returning from foreign wars). Entrance to Saepinum was through one of four gates, each bounded by two towers. The perimeter of the city wall (completed over a six-year period from 4 BC to 2 AD) is partially intact with remnants of a few circular towers still extant. Latin inscriptions on the gates and buildings tell of the wealthy families who donated towards their construction, including the children of Augustus Caesar commemorating the recent campaigns against the Germanic tribes to the north. Saepinum enjoyed an economic boom during the first two centuries AD with an influx of new land-owners just outside the city-walls. Subsequently, however, the formation of large land holdings, huge estates owned by absentee landlords -land that was in many cases left fallow or at least poorly run - contributed to the economic decline of the area and, indeed, of the Empire, itself. Saepinum thrived for a thousand years before being sacked by the Saracens in 882 AD. During the Middle Ages new building incorporated the old stones (including engraved blocks and columns, etc) into their structures, which can still be seen today amongst the Roman ruins.

La grande Corniche - today one of the most popular and beautiful coast roads in Europe, 2000 years ago it was the most important link between Rome and Gaule. The construction of the Via Julia Augusta - also called Via Aurelia- was made possible after the roman victory over the ancient tribes populating the maritime Alps. By then the on shore connection between Italy and Spain was sustained by the Via Domitia passing by Col de Montgenevre which was located considerably further in the north. Like in the esterel massif between Cannes and Frejus romans opted here in the Grand Corniche for more than one trail to traverse this delicate terrain between Nice and Menton. This trail on top of the ridge of the Grand Corniche, and another one in the Vallon de Laghet, a valley in the north of the Grand Corniche, today running next to the modern autoroute a8. Several roman milestones have been found there. There might have been a third one, going along the coast down at the sea. The vistas are indeed heady on this dizzying road. Between Nice and Menton the pine-forested Alpes drop precipitously to the sea, creating one of the most dramatic and inspiring views in Europe. In times of peace this trail on top of the ridge 550m above sea level was propably not the main route. But when tavelers had to anticipate attacks of celto-ligurian tribes or raiders it was too unsafe to cross the valley of Laghet in the north. At La Turbie the lower and upper road merged together and passed over the ...
Egypt is a land of monumental temples, gigantic pyramids, the River Nile and the mysterious Sphinx; it embodies 5000 years of history. Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 BC, the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta, and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatras spell. Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Giza. The Cheops Pyramid, the worlds largest single construction, took 400000 workers 20 years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53000 square meters - the height of a 50 story skyscraper. In the middle of todays modern city of Luxor, known as the Capital City Of The Pharaohs,' the Luxor Temple stretches along the eastern banks of the Nile. Not far away lies the temple complex of Karnak and the Amun Temple. 67 kilometers from Luxor, on the western bank of the Nile, lies the Temple of Dendera, the most important place of worship for the love goddess, HATHOR, whose heavenly appearance was portrayed by the body of a cow. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ancient ...
