He said the bill would cost Ohio businesses millions in increased taxes and ultimately cost workers their jobs. "We're particularly hit hard because we have a lot of coal, over 85-percent of us get our electricity from coal, and also because we have a lot of manufacturing, which is hit hard," he said. "This would cost 100000 jobs in Ohio if this passes. It's the wrong thing to do." Portman said the real answer would be to have Ohio produce its own energy.

The cap and trade legislation making its way through the US House and Senate is supposedly focused on decreasing carbon dioxide. In reality, it will do little to change the climate but will add enormous taxes on every American, especially those with lower incomes who can least afford more taxes.
